mame 4-way joystick mapping

Hello guys
I play with an 8 way joystick but when I play 4 way joystick games like Frogger and Pacman, hitting the diagonals will often result in going to an unwanted direction.
I know there is a "NOT" option in mame mapping but I don't know how to activate it.
Just to be clear : in Frogger for an example I want the right key to go right (obviously..), BUT I also want the right/up and right/down diagonals to NOT respond
So...anybody knows how to use the "NOT" command ?

I'd like to know as well. My 4-way plate gives me the 4 directions, but at diagonals.

well, look at the bright side - your joystick is ideal to play Qbert with..
