Do you realize this means the terrorists win? The whole point of terrorism is to disrupt a society through fear and violence. Closing our borders goes against what the US stands for. It also proves their point that the west hates muslims simply for being muslim.
On top of that it won't really stop any serious threats. If these people want to wreak havoc in the US they'll get here another way. Maybe they'll just stroll across the Canadian border? Canadians and US citizens do it all the time.

Yes.

So what happens if these people have no where else to go, should we just sit back and let them die?

They're only looking at carefully selected photos that seem to show only able bodied males, because that's scarier than all the women, children and old people who are also coming in. It's right wing propaganda.

Nothing but pandering to scared people. Legally they cannot refuse them. If they resist then they'll have the army in their state enforcing it. I'm sure some will make a big show of resisting but in the end they'll all cave and deal with it more rationally when people calm down.

Let them live with you then.
This is the problem with bleeding-heart liberals. They're always the first to spout off saying "we" need to do something. They're never the first to actually do something about the problem. Its easier to sit home, all warm and cozy, and spout off over social media that "we, as a nation" need to change. Need to help. The hypocrisy is deep.
I'll eagerly await picture of the white knight Dudebro, on his noble steed, opening his home to refugees, sharing Dudeson's supper with them. I'm willing to bet you wouldn't even go so far as to open your wallet to them. Prove me wrong. Post a video of you making a monetary donation to the refugees. I'll match.

No it's the truth. If we let terrorists change our way of life then they win. Simple as that.

They are welcome to live in my neighborhood if they don't break any laws. They'd fit right in with the other "savages" that the right wing locals don't like - Brazilians, Puerto Ricans, Indians and Guatemalans. 50 years ago it was the Portuguese, 100 it was the Italians. Syrians are just the new boogeyman.

So what am I supposed to do just stay silent while people post ignorant and hateful shit? I can't just pack up and leave my kid behind and I have very little extra money to give away. Countering bullshit posts is my contribution. I'm trying to change minds. Sorry if that's not enough for you.

I don't have to prove anything to you but if I knew of a trustworthy charity to donate to I would try. Maybe you aren't aware of it but ask around RU and I'm sure people will clue you in to how generous I am. I don't appreciate the implication that I'm not.
I really don't get why you guys(and millions of others apparently) are so hostile to the idea that these refugees are just people that need help. Do you guys sincerely believe that this is all a secret plot to invade the west? I feel like I'm in the twilight zone and I'm the only one not wearing a tin foil hat.

Re: Current events!
DB, you cannot compare this situation to immigration of other groups of people in the past.
Muslims are different, because Islam insists that they are - and through Political Correctness their ideology is being represented as compatible with the 'western' society you mentioned, while the majority of us can see it is not.

Muslims ARE engaged in some secret agenda for Islamic global domination.
He implied that this is exactly what is happening.
He says he supports terrorism.
He says he wants Sharia Law to be imposed on the world.
I'm not Ok with this.
Ban me, throw me in jail for hate speech.
Do it, because if that's what will bring about the end of this PC nightmare then so be it.
Getting back to the refugees, how are we to tell the 'good' from the 'bad'?
Especially when this Imam tells us the Muslims will say one thing to our face while secretly thinking another?

The cons of letting them in VASTLY outweigh the pros. In fact I can't think of a single good reason they should be let in. There are how many million of them? To hell with them, if they're in so much trouble, they can fight ISIS themselves, they vastly outnumber them anyways.

Yes I can because the average Syrian civilian is not a terrorist. They deserve to be treated like anyone else.

So? In the US we have lots of people who advocate for christian laws and policies, even politicians running for president. Why is it bad for one group and not the other?

When they do something bad, just like every other human being. Do you seriously believe in guilty until proven innocent, but only in the case of muslims?

It's simply impossible for them to do it. Let's be real though you just want them to try so they can all die and leave you alone, right?

That's just appeal to emotion, and nothing more. You can't honestly think they deserve to live in HAWAII of all places, right? Do you have any idea how bad the homeless problem is in places? Why are we housing ANOTHER countries people before OUR OWN? You can't defend this.

No it's not. The main reason why we help our fellow humans is compassion. Sorry you can't understand that.

Hawaiians are known for being very welcoming and kind so I'm not surprised at all that their governor said they're welcome. Maybe they wouldn't need to end up there if the other governors stopping being so damn paranoid and ignorant.
Sure I can. You can't understand my point because you think compassion for fellow humans is just a way to win arguments.

You totally sidestepped the homeless problem.
You keep preaching "compassion" and "muh feels" so answer me. Why should economic migrants get priority over housing over US citizens?
Also those governors are ignorant for not wanting this scum in their state? Well if it makes me ignorant and racist for supporting them, then hell, I'm A-OK with being racist if it means supporting the safety of where I live.

I didn't sidestep it I just didn't think it needed to be replied to because it's obvious. Yes I'm very aware of the homeless problem in our country.
What a loaded term. It completely ignores the warzone that is their homeland.
I got a question for you. Do you think the homeless problem would be dealt with if we did close our borders? If so why wait until now to fix it? It seems to me that homelessness has been a problem for a very long time.

Yeah the are and so are you. You're referring to innocent people as scum and savages simply for having a religion you're scared of. That's practically the definition of ignorance. It's amazing that you can bring that up and not realize how bad it makes you look. I'm sincerely stunned at how proud you are to be cruel and hateful.

No, I don't think it would be dealt with, and that's a problem. They ignore their needs, but now that it's a minority, everyone's bending over backwards to help them in a race to be the most progressive.
And they're scum because with all these numbers, surely they could make a stand against ISIS, they outnumber them vastly after all. But nah, they wanna run away to Europe and America for handouts while they watch their homeland burn.
Funfact, 16% of France's population support ISIS, and 42% of France's Muslim population believe suicide bombings are justified. This is not "a tiny percentage"

The Syrians have been fighting a civil war in the region since 2011, undergoing attacks from the Syrian government as well as other nations using the conflict as a proxy war (Saudi Arabia vs Iran and now USA vs Russia).
Syrian Civil War
To say they're not fighting is a bit much, and civilians are always displaced by conflict.

Why are the able bodied men fleeing? If my home was being attacked, I wouldn't run away like some coward, I'd fight.
Hell, let their women fight as well, nothing more demoralizing to them than getting killed by a woman, or something like that.
On a darker note, there was another suicide bomber in Paris today, a woman that blew herself up during a raid to find the mastermind behind the attacks a few days ago. Luckily I don't think they managed to kill anyone that wasn't them, but this is getting crazy.

Actually, ISIS {which now goes by either the name ISIL, or Daesh} members are told that if they get killed by a woman they will go to hell.
I can only imagine what Islamic hell must be like.
Some women are fighting.
The alternative is being turned into sex slaves, or simply being dragged behind a truck by their hair until dead by ISIS, ISIL, Daesh:

Sometimes people resort to fighting fire with fire.
This situation was crazy long before the day the first attacks took place; when the people behind the attacks began planning them.

It's not a simple act of standing and fighting. It takes firm resolve to be willing to kill or die for anything, not everyone is mentally cut out to be a soldier. Putting a gun to someone's head is enough to make 99.9% of people do as they're told, let alone the chemical munitions, aerial bombardments, and other mechanized forces currently deployed in Syria.
People aren't going to stay in an area where it is impossible to live, no matter what. They will always go to where an environment is more favorable.

I don't think there is a single armed conflict in the history of mankind where women have taken a role in the front lines. Not sure why that would change now. And the women are at risk of being kidnapped, sold as sex slaves, and married to ISIS fighters and forced to bear children.

I don't see why it's valid. We have programs in place already and these issues are discussed, voted on, ect constantly. The Syrian refugees are a people in crisis, calling them economic migrants is stupid because they're not just shopping around for a better country they're fleeing war and death.

In what world is it invalid? We're hardly in a position to start providing food and shelter for economic migrants if we can't even provide those basic needs to ourselves.
We have international programs in place, and these issues are discussed, voted on, etc... constantly.
