Congrats maxh!
The next contest will run Feb 1, 2015 to Feb 1, 2016 Midnight EST. Mainly because ending on New Year's Eve is bad for last minute competition but also I'm running late getting it started.
Let's solidify this in the next couple days.
Scoring for next year: Points for Rank and Percent, same as last year but remove points for date and clear.
Games:
1. Beat'em Up
Shadow Force - Arcade/Coin-Op
I have little experience with this game. It is Technos' final arcade game and has a bunch of unique new ideas. 6 buttons including one to posses enemies and play as them. The difficulty is high. Has probably the largest set of moves of any beat 'em up meaning it will probably take longer to master and learn which moves to use when.
2. Vs. Fighter
Dragon: The Bruce Lee Story - Sega Genesis
Button mashing doesn't work. Sandbagging is of very little help. There is huge bonus for not repeating moves making you learn the entire game and not just one gimmick power. Most people have no pre-existing experience. It is difficult without being impossible. Someone will probably clear it in the year but it will take effort. Downside: The game is slower paced/more clunky than games like Street Fighter. That pushes away casual players but I think it will be good for competition. Also you have a chance to earn extra lives. If someone mastered that it could lead to accidental or intentional farming. It is unlikely that someone would master the technique but might be best to rule that the extra lives can not be used.
3. Fixed Shooter
Galaga '88 - Arcade/Coin-Op
The original Galaga is the archetype for the genre. This is basically the same game with a facelift and a few small updates.
4. Bullet Hell Shot'em Up
DoDonPachi - Arcade/Coin-Op
I don't know much about this genre but this game seems good. Difficult, fun, with bonuses that favor players that have a deep understand and mastery of the game.
5. Racing
Chase HQ - Arcade/Coin-Op
I don't know. I never play these types of games.
6. Run'n Gun
Wild West COWBoys of Moo Mesa - Arcade/Coin-Op
All other games in the genre that I tried had a blurry line between intentional and accidental farming. This one does not.
7. Run'n Jump
Alex Kidd in Miracle World - Sega
As Sega's answer to SMB this fits the genre well. No farming possible. Will probably be cleared by a couple people within the year causing people to have to go back and try to master it to squeeze every point out of it. Alex always get's over shadowed by Mario and Sonic. As one of the first games I ever extensively played I think he deserves a bit of love.
8. Puzzle
Small Karat: Gemstone Kingdom World - Arcade/Coin-Op
I suggest using a mouse. Press Shift + F5 to enable mouse. If using keyboard hit tab, select analog controls, change speed and sensitivity to 10. You can use any mode except "Begginers". Challenging Breakout style game with a bonus system that rewards skill.
9. Sports
Stone Ball - Arcade/Coin-Op
One of the few sports games with a decent scoring system.
10. Dungeon Crawler
Fatal Labyrinth - Sega Genesis
One of the few adventure games with a decent score system.

The last week is more important than the rest of the year. I'll probably remove invisibility before the end of next year and I'll figure out something by the end to make it more obvious when a new score is submitted to a game. Something like an ability to subscribe to an individual game and be emailed when a score is submitted, approved or deleted for it.
