Yes, loved to watch Tony Gwynn.

My soapbox for the day. If the people in charge really cared about the health of the players, instead of worrying about steroids, they'd get rid of chewing tobacco. I'm pretty sure the numbers aren't even close as to which kills more people each year. I haven't dipped in a really long time but I chewed for over 17 years and hope I don't suffer the same fate.

Unfortunately was too young to see Gwynn play in his prime. I can only see the highlights. He had a tremendous career though, 3k+ hits. RIP.

He struck out no more than 40 times a season. I think his total number of strikeouts was 430ish in 20 years. There are a lot of players in the MLB that would reach 430k's in 5 years.

For a comparison, A-rod has also played for 20 years, and has struck out 2,075 times

@BH- That's DiMaggio-like. Joe DiMaggio never struck out more than 40 times a year. However, the fact that Gwynn did this during the steroid era is extremely impressive.

In 1997 Gwynn played in 149 games and struck out 29 times. That's on average, 1 strikeout every five GAMES. Oh and he hit .372 that year (a measly number when you compare that to his .394 he hit in 1994). Simply incredible.

Actor James Garner, probably best known for the TV series Maverick and The Rockford Files (he also appeared in lots of movies), died last night at 86, of what they're saying is natural causes.

Wow, that's a huge shock. I was a huge fan of his as an actor and a comedian. If CBS's cancelling of Crazy Ones was part of his depression I'll be super-pissed.

Oh here we go. While I agree, you have to realize how difficult it is to struggle with Type 1 Bipolar disorder, especially when you have it your entire life. Combined with his past with drugs, it's a wonder he hadn't done it sooner.

So while, yes, it's sucky he killed himself, don't disrespect him either.

You guys can believe whatever you want, but don't expect me to join you in your crusade to condition people into thinking that suicide is an acceptable option for when life gets hard. Suicide is the ultimate failure, it decimates the lives of your loved ones, it is the most selfish act a person can commit.

You're misunderstanding me, SC.

I totally agree with you. Suicide is selfish. What Robin Williams did to his family is selfish and that's exactly the reason why I feel so bad for him. That he was so messed up and depressed that he couldn't bother to ask for more help, to push through for his daughter and wife? That's terrible. But I can also understand why he did what he did. I don't agree with it, but I understand.

It was just stated that he did have a relapse not too long ago, He was seen leaving a rehab facility.

I understand what you are saying, life became hell for him. But turning a blind eye to his ultimate act is not healthy, for us, nor future generations. It's imperative that there is an asterisk next to his name, people need to know that there are always other options.

My own father took his life Jan. 4th 2000.

I still remember watching that first Happy Days episode when Mork from Ork first showed up. I enjoyed his comedy a lot and am sad to see him go. This I did not know, "A passionate gamer, Williams named his daughter Zelda".
