Enlighten me, what makes the other 2 online services better? Lobbies and messaging and stuff? If that's the case, then for me, yeah, free without those things is the better option.

That's where they get hurt with the dudebros. For me, it's a very rare occurrence where I'm disappointed a game is on Xbox and Playstation, and not on Nintendo.

But yes, they should definitely try to get a few more of the multiplats, not getting a game like GTA 5 for example hurts the library. Its not so bad though, considering they have the best exclusives by a landslide.

With an unbiased opinion...

I think Microsoft will be the worst of the 3 in sales, then as for Nintendo & Sony, I think Sony will have a slight edge.

Why? I think people are still into the realistic, realistic, realistic craze, and while some like myself are more into the platformers, and casually fun games that nintendo often offers, there's more people wanting the realistic shooter, or driving simulator, or whatever. For this reason, it'll still likely be (for those people) between the Xbox one, and the ps4, in which I believe the majority will pick the ps4. Why? Ps3 held an edge over the 360 in the end, these ps3 fans will likely move on to ps4, or pc, not the xbox one. Enough dissatisfied with the 360 (such as myself), would opt to move to the ps4 for these types of games.

Then of course, Nintendo offers it's own style of games often, and yes, I acknowledge sony & microsoft both get games of all genres, as well as nintendo does, the simple fact remains that mario sells better than say pac man adventure games, something as an example that the xbox one and ps4 would get, as well as maybe nintendo. The fact also is that CoD (Again as an example) sells better on the Sony/Microsoft consoles.

TL;DR Overall, not much will shift, it'll depend on the gamers, and you have one style of gamer catered to with nintendo, and the other split between the xbox one and the ps4. Out of the two, PS4 will win due to unsatisfied 360 fans, and ps3 fans continuing on their path.

As for me personally, I like all sorts of genre's of games, but I tend to go with what I trust, and what I more often than not enjoy in nintendo games & consoles. Wii U for now, probably a PS4 down the road for the occasional racing sim, RPG, or sport game.

Edit: I didn't take the steambox or any of that into account for now. I kind of see this like another generation 5 beyond the top 3 dogs. These other consoles will likely be the new 3do's, the new jaguars, etc. Maybe not quite that bad though.

@Cam3ron36 Why is Wii U even in discuss as its a last gen console on par with PS3/360 miles behind the new consoles and does not even have a proper online service.

People like Mario yes but all the top Wii U games are also getting 3DS versions since that platform was also struggling compared to DS so there is no need for a Wii U.

On another note PS4 sold 1 million consoles on day 1 giving it more sales than any other console in a whole month worldwide.... and this is only NA still to launch in Europe.

Even when the 3DS was doing "bad", it was still doing way better than the Vita. Last year when the ball got rolling, the 3DS has the most units sold out of all the consoles.

I agree with Cam that the WiiU will pick up tremendously soon. Super Mario 3D World, Smash Bros, and Mario Kart will sell a lot of units. I still think PS4 will beat WiiU but Nintendo will be able to make up the difference with the 3DS crushing the Vita. Microsoft is an afterthought imo.

I agree though that the WiiU's online needs work.

Impressive numbers. Interested to see what the Xbox One number will be. I'm guessing around that number since its most popular in the U.S though I could see it lower.

You could say 3DS sold more here but the chart is a little off PS3/360/Wii are now older consoles are are past gen so will not sell as much at all.

Vita I agree has not done well but Sony have been clever basically re branding it as a PS4 accessory.

With Wii U many stores are already dropping support of the console. In EU last year Nintendo sold -20,000 consoles yup stores could not even sell them

I think the mario kart and 3D World are being over estimated its not as if DK, NSMB 2 and Super Luigi U have helped sell the console at all and who would pay $250 for a console with no 3rd party support and gets about 1 new game every 2 months come out?

They are two different games. Land is single player, World is multiplayer and more relatable to Super Mario Bros 2. If you want to say they are the same, I can go ahead and say CoD, Battlefield, and Killzone are all the same.

NSMB2 was a 3DS title, New Super Mario Bros. U was the one released at launch. That and Pikmin 3 are the only two good games. The 3DS didn't start to boom until NSMB2 and Mario Kart 7 came out so I disagree there. Why would you pay 400 dollars for a console with just as few exclusives when you can buy them for less on Steam? I guess it boils down to opinion and we will just agree to disagree.

For what its worth, I will be buying a PS4 this Christmas.

Once the hype for the PS4 and Bone die down, and World, Kart, Fit, and Smash are out. I guarantee the Wii U will pull ahead, if it's not winning by the end of 2014 I'll eat my hat.

Those games will sell to people who have the console already, but won't pull in new system buyers the way Nintendo is hoping.

Don't count on everyone sharing that view. PC gaming is coming back big but the PS4 and X1 will still pull in big numbers of people simply looking to play multiplatform games on networks like Live and PSN.


Imo the Wii sold because it came packaged with the most casual-friendly, quick to start, and easy to set up multiplier game consoles have ever seen. If you visited someone who owned a Wii, I'd say the odds were good they were prepped for four player gameplay and it would have been easy to give it a go to demo the system for yourself. The thing markets itself via its owners.

I've never quite heard of the Wii U making the same waves or being an easy access party system. While it has potential to grow in sales due to fan-demand first party titles, I very much doubt it will be enough of an edge over Sony or Microsoft. The Kinnect, should X1 actually handle some easy-access games correctly, might have the same effect as the Wii but the price is a probable deterrent.

That huge tablet controller is the main selling point. What can it do that is actually useful?

Being able to use it as a gameboy is cool but it seems like anyone that really wants portable gaming should go with a 3DS and have a regular controller for their console. Combining the 2 without any other useful reason is stupid.

This is a serious question. Are there any games that do a great job of utilizing the controller? Is there any game where you are glad you have that beast in your hands instead of the Wii U Pro Controller?

-Pikmin 3 (The pad was the map but you could create routes by clicking a point on the pad, had several menus to look up information. I thought the controls were weird but I found out its the same for the Pro controller and it must've just been bad control design overall. The actual pad itself though was legitimately fun to use for this game.

-Nintendo Land (Best example of the WiiU pad's potential. Basically one game of several minigames. Very fun using the pad. 3 or more players use the Wii controllers and one uses the pad. Being the pad was really fun in certain minigames)

-ZombiU (Although I didn't like the game in general, the use of the WiiU game pad was very good imo)

-Scribblenauts Unlimited (I believe it is required of the game)
-New Super Mario Bros. U (Wouldn't mind either way)

If they ever made a Zelda game for the WiiU, I think it would be useful. Can't say anything about that right now though, obviously.

So overall I don't hate the WiiU Pad. It has been pretty useful for the games I have. Honestly don't know why so many people have such a big deal with it. My only problem with it is that its too big.

It is supposed to contain things like maps and equip screens for games like Zelda, at least that is what they showed when it was first launching. I have no clue if any games actually use it that way yet.

I don't know of specifics, but I would definitely use it for a map and managing inventory, like a lot of DS games do. As far as using it for in game purposes, I can't see it being anything more than a nuisance for the most part. I do think being able to use it to play games while the TV is occupied, or you feel like laying in bed or whatever, is cool.
