Personally, I think your quote from their home page does sound like hate, but I also think all nationalism sounds like hate too and most would disagree with me on that.

The very core principle of the KKK is that pure bred Aryan protestant Christian Americans are superior to everyone else.

That by itself, to me, is an evil idea that can not lead to good.

Their reputation is that this superiority complex causes them to be violent and hateful to others. That reputation is mostly caused by the height of their power in the late 1800's when a whole lot of people were being pretty nasty jerks to everyone but the KKK were at the time the worst of the jerks.

In modern times, they are still doing nasty stuff. The modern stuff may or may not be caused by a minority but at least a few of them are keeping up the old traditions.

At the very least anyone that joins the group is racist. I am guessing even if the majority are not violent, they still take pride in the fact that they are joining a group that has a strong and well earned reputation for be racists terrorists.

They are also hypocrites since there is no such thing as a pure bred Aryan. I would like to see some philanthropist donate free DNA tests to every KKK member.

I don't believe that's entirely accurate; the Romans or the Vikings perhaps came close, but that would be ignoring the Chiefs of Africa, and I imagine the Emperors of China and other places?
What I'm saying is that there's too much of a blanket statement being made.
No one race has ever ruled the ENTIRE world; there have always been regional power structures.

Yeah my statement was a little too broad. Point is, whites have barely ever been discriminated against.

I agree. This whole "reverse discrimination" is nonsense. "White people have more power than others, so their bigotry effects much more. All prejudice is wrong, which is why "reverse" is superfluous, but whites don't experience it as much as others, so they shouldn't complain.

These ultra-rightist groups, like the KKK, pretend that they fight for freedom, but that's totally false because they forget that, as was stated before, civil rights are for everyone.

I really believe that all prejudice really derives from selfishness and desire for power.

So besides the ridiculousness of sentencing someone to church(is that admitting it's a punishment?) how about this kid getting no jail time for driving drunk and killing his passenger? This judge is an embarrassment and should be disbarred.

I think it's fine. Having to go to church for 10 years would make me think twice about driving drunk again. I like when judges hand out unconventional punishments. Although 10 years is pretty steep, maybe 2 would be better.

The problem is the US is not supposed to be a theocracy. If the kid was agnostic,atheist or anything besides christian how much you wanna bet he'd be in prison?

Where does it say he is a Christian? If that's the case it's not an appropriate punishment. Anyway, the article says the judge sends people to church as part of their punishment all the time.

Why is hard to believe he's christian? He's an old white guy from Oklahoma. Also if he was anything but christian the locals would actually have a problem with his unconstitutional rulings. It's not appropriate in any case. Doing it frequently doesn't make it ok.

Well it bothers me because it's not constitutional and the judge knows it. He's just arrogantly waving his faith in peoples faces. He even has his pastor in court for rulings. It's just ridiculous.

I doubt arrogance has anything to do with it, he probably firmly believes his actions are good.

Putting 17 year olds in prison for stuff they did while they were drunk is not going to make the problem any better. Retribution is a failed plan for both society and individuals. I'll give the judge credit for at least recognizing that and looking for an alternative even if his alternative is just as flawed plus unconstitutional.

That is the definition of arrogance. He knows that our laws forbid him from doing that, he knows his job is to set aside his personal opinions. Instead he thought he knew better and that his own belief system was better than the laws he swore to uphold. Arrogance.

I feel you only think it's arrogant because of the moral/ethical prism you're viewing the situation through.

If you were to twist the situation around to where you agreed with the reasoning behind someone going against the law because of their own beliefs then you wouldn't think of them as arrogant.

Some examples that might apply; the warden who refuses to pull the lever on the electric chair, the eco-pirate who prevents Japanese whalers, the website owner who goes against unjust copyright laws that have 99 year lifespans.

@Tenser. I would be less likely to spot or call arrogance in those situations because of my personal bias but I still agree they are text book arrogance. Someone that believes they know better than everyone else and acts on that belief in a way that affects others despite the majority expressing outrage is arrogant.

When it comes to being just and unbiased a judge is held to a much higher standard than everyone else. A good judge sets all of their personal agendas to the side.

@mars. I think the biggest hurdle is still humans don't do well in prolonged zero g. I think it takes something like 2 years to physically recover from a month in space. * I am not 100% positive about this though.

I don't think Humans will be making the trip soon if at all.
My guess is they'll send robots there to strip mine the hell out of whatever they seem to think is up there.

Bottom line: I am not hopeful of there being any Space: 1999/ Total Recall {original flavor} scenario where people live in off - world colonies.
There will be no 'United Federation of Planets' ..
