I voted Obama. I don't agree with some of Romney's social policies. I do think Obama will cost us money but I have yet to meet a politician who actually gave me more bank. I really wish Bill Clinton would run again.

Quite a few states have laws that require their electoral college to vote for the popular vote. So ya we don't directly vote for president but yet we do. Would be nice to have more then 2 options though. Something Ross Perot ish.

I don't pay much or really any attention to what either candidate was about, all I know is that people here mock, hate and make fun of Mitt Romney.

Edit: If I actually lived in the states, and was a year older, I would have done my research, and if I didn't do my research for some reason, then I wouldn't vote.

So, I'll share a little nugget with you. Just to give you an idea of how obsurd people can be, about how the past two elections have had less to with politics and more to do with race (imo), and why the 26th amendment needs to be changed.

At the university that I work, the housing people had the brilliant idea of putting a group from one sports team on the same floor as a group from other sports team. Group A is primarly white, middle class backgrounds, and from rural areas. Group B is primarly black, from lower income backgrounds and from urban areas. Group A wanted Romney, B wanted Obama. As election night went on, the situation deterrated from playful barbs, to teasing, to racial slurs, and then ultimately physical confrontation that resulted in the expulsion of one student and the suspension of another.
Quite ridiculous when considering that 1. this is the first election they have every had to vote in, 2. none of them are seriously effected by the election as they don't pay taxes and are dependents, 3. when asked why they supported their candidates, the answers were because of skin color, political party that they either best identified with or their parents' party, or because romney was a rich guy.

Concerning the 26th Amendment, it was ratified in a time with a draft was in place that meant 18 year olds could be forced to serve in the military without having the right to choose who their elected leaders were. That time as pasted. I can also tell you that even though 18 year olds are considered adults, I have met few that I would classify as adults. Most do not have the life experence and the maturity to make educated decisions in their daily lives and to be dependent complete on themselves, nevermind having the social responsiblity for elected political leaders. (Yes, I also acknowledge that many adults lack to the social responiblity as well)

As a counter argument against your race theory.
If the Romney had been black and Obama white, everything else probably would have stayed the same. The white rural lacrosse team would have still been republican and the black urban basketball team would have still been democrats. And they still would have hated each other.

I don't think the problem is their age. It is their education (radio and TV) and role models. We are teaching them to behave that way.

If you waited 10 years and put the exact same people in the exact same situation, it probably wouldn't result in physical confrontation but I bet the rest would go down about the same.

As for the administrator, no. The housing decision was made months ago with only one incident in between. Plus the administrator wasn't the one throwing punches.

In regards to the counter arguement, I acknowledge the point about Urban/Liberal and Rural/Conservative, but when asked why they were voting for either candidate, responses from both sides included (Pro-Obama) "because he is black" or "because Romney is a rich white guy" and (Pro-Romney) "because Obama is black" or "because he is white". This was not the arguement from everyone, there were 3 individuals that I did talk to that were very well informed and one that actually voted for Gary Johnson.

Curiosity's sake, what race where the kids who got expelled and suspended? Can you give us more details on how the fight went down?

Suspended was white, expelled was black...like I said in the previous post, the expelled kid had multiple strikes against him already.

Neither side will admit to starting it naturally. Verbally, it began ealier in the night when the wrestlers had a Romney chant going, to which the basketball players responded to a bunch of F-U's. Later, when it appeared Obama was going to win, the basketball players had Obama chants to which the wrestlers responded with a bunch of F-U's. Toss in a bunch of racial slurs from both sides, neither side admits to starting it. Most accounts lead to the basketball playing throwing an object that no one can identify, the person that got hit got in his face, shoving, then punching, then the RA finally showed up.

As long as we're talking about race, I'd like to share that adopting two Hispanic boys has changed me. Not long after we adopted, all of this immigration crap started. I checked out a couple of the rallies and on one side of the street are a bunch of Hispanic families and on the other a bunch of old rich white guys. I was raised in a very conservative household and was always registered as a Republican. But after witnessing the hate, I unregistered as a Republican and now consider myself an Independent. I would never vote for Romney based just on this one issue. I also don't think Obama did a very good job so I exercised my right to not vote for either. The Republicans are getting too old, too white and too male and if they don't figure out how to include some minorities, they are going to be in trouble because America is changing.

My local newspaper has been full of racist comments about the white establishment being a minority. Not the paper itself, the comment sections online. These people are so brazen about their racism it's shocking. Before the election none of them would say it was about race in any way. Now that it's over and they lost it's about race. The only silver lining is this shows me I've been right about them all along.

I do believe there is a condition in the Texas state constitution that allows it to split itself into 6 or 7 separate states. Theoretically, if Texas choose to do so, it could create 10 or 12 new senators which would likely all be Republican, which would give control of the senate back to the Republicans.

That being said, 25k is a really small percentage of the population of Texas, so that number being the minimum is really surprising.

That statement is inaccurate. 22 states listed, only 10.5 (for the .5, see Missouri below) were confederate. Oklahoma was not a state at the time of the Civil War, Kentucky, although a slave state, never secede from the Union. As was the case (sort of) by Missouri (a slave state), the state legislature voted against secession, but the governor raised an army and basically declared Missouri part of the confederacy. Both sides, Union and Conferate claimed Missiouri. By definition of the Missouri Compromise, both Arizona and Oklahoma would have been slave states if they had been made at that time.

I heard that is just a rumor. Either way I think it was President Jackson so made it illegal for states to leave the union. Texas isn't going anywhere.

The 25k signatures thing is just to get an official reply from the white house, it doesn't matter what the subject is.

Sorry, I should've said that a good portion of those states were confederate. The more accurate statement is that it's a bunch of sore loser states who don't like america.

Oh come on, that isn't fair to those states. What you are really looking at is 1 or 2 individuals or small groups per state trying to get signatures. 21 of the 22 couldn't get 25k signatures...that is pretty telling. It isn't hard to get signatures for anything, especially when you could have just lied or stretched the truth about what you were getting signatures for. I bet I could get 25k signatures that say that Hitler had a nice moustache. I think it is a better measure to say that most of the states said FU to the dudes trying to get the signatures.

As for the Texas thing, I researched more, the wording is there in the Texas Constituion, but for other states to be admitted into the Union, Congress would have to approve it.

On an Obama note, a friend of my brothers does serious campaign work for the DNC. Obama stopped by the office the other day after the election. This was the video that was taken.
