This is something I strongly agree with.

Re: Retro Uprising commercial idea!
A showcase of the site itself first (like a small tour of the site) and then later show small scenes of playing classic games like mario, donkey kong, secret of mana, gradius, tmnt, etc.

Yeah, that. Unless one of us happens to have a great voice for being a narrator. Maybe I should get a baseball bat and "persuade" Morgan Freeman to narrate a walkthrough of the various features of the site.
In all honesty, we should keep it simple, with as little narration as possible. Show clips of games being played, maybe some high-scores to get the competitive-type and so on.

Re: Retro Uprising commercial idea!
The camera pans through a vintage arcade, circa 1983, the lights are dim but the lights of the machines are vibrant, the classic arcade sounds pop. the camera settles on a young man, intensely playing his favorite machine, his friends are crowding over his shoulder, he is going for the high score. A larger thick mullet wearing Rocker type with the name Spike embroidered on his jean jacket slaps a quarter on the machine and gives him a glare. The young man hits the big bonus before crashing out. His friends go wild. he enters in his high score on the screen and it is seen that his name is now on top and Spike is #2. Spike is seen shaking his head in disgust as the young mans friends mob him. During the celebration the scene fades and suddenly the man is much older, balder and the decor of his home tells us we are present day. He seems sadly nostalgic at the memory and turns where he sees his computer. He runs over and is seen logging on to Retro Uprising. Quick scenes of him playing all the classics, submitting scores and showing his trophy count rise. the name he enters is the same as the name he used in the flashback. He is seen posting some trash talk to another user named Spike whose avatar is a much older fatter version of himself with a balding mullet. Suddenly it shows a score submission knocking him to #2 and the camera pans back to the man looking on with a resigned smirk as his son takes his high score. The Retro Uprising logo comes on screen with the website link below. Bring your game back, leave the quarters at home!

Re: Retro Uprising commercial idea!
Thunderlips idea is good but compared to the gametap examples it takes a lot more effort and expertise.
You have to have actors, editors, sets, scripts, nice cameras and mics, talent, time etc.
For a gametap style you barely need anything.

Re: Retro Uprising commercial idea!
We could do both. Do the gametap commercial first then work on THunder's idea

Re: Retro Uprising commercial idea!
Thunderlips your idea is absolutely brilliant, and would make an excellent commercial. However I have to agree with Kong, it'd take a lot of time, effort and most likely money to make and I'm not sure thats possible at this point in RU's life!
Something to definitely consider for the future, though in the mean time something similar to Gametap's ad's would be ideal to attract new users.
If it happens, I'd be more than willing to share the video around, hell I'll even spam people with the link if thats what you want
(BTW have we already a winner for highest ranked post of 2012? )

How bout this: We put thunderlips's idea in the form of a gametap commercial. Anyone think that is a good idea?

Re: Retro Uprising commercial idea!
Thanks for all the positive feedback! I totally understand the logistics of turning an idea into reality though. I just posted it for the thread I have no expectations on it seeing the light of day. That said though and in the spirit of having fun we need some RU users to step up as free actors for the commercial. The following roles will need to be filled.
1) Random arcade people (extras)
2) The young gamer
3) his friends
4) Spike
5) mid 40's gamer
6) mid 40's Spike
9) the gamers son.
offer your services for a role or suggest others you feel should play each role. I think Warghoul could pull off young spike if we trim his bangs to a mullet

Re: Retro Uprising commercial idea!
It probably wouldn't work using RU users. Everyone needs to be in the same place unless someone does some serious blue screen magic.
It would only work if someone takes it up as a project they want to mostly accomplish alone.

Re: Retro Uprising commercial idea!
Thunderlips Idea is fantastic but in reality getting it all together wont be that easy, its just not that simple. It would be awkward enough already with lack of funding, actors, scripts, decent video editing software and Camcorders etc, but the fact that most of you are not in the same area doesn't help at all.
However....
You could always make a Animation of Thunderlips Idea using a Members voice for the Character/Voice over.

Re: Retro Uprising commercial idea!
I think an animated version would be easier to make because I doubt members of RU would gather together and spend a lot of time making this commercial.
