Abobo's Big Adventure
Abobo's Big Adventure - Official Trailer - YouTube
Abobo's Big Adventure is a flash game, starring the unmistakable opponent of Double Dragon in a search for his kidnapped son. The game is a tribute to the NES, with many stages set in that console's classics. I was beta tester for the Zelda stage and enjoyed myself too much (and I don't even like Zelda ...).
Developers announced the release date for January, 11! I can't wait to play the final result!

Re: Abobo's Big Adventure
That looks like the best retro game ever made. Also I saw sharks with frickin lazers on their heads.

And I'm thinking that sharks with lasers were an original idea. It seems that nothing is original these days!
I am amazed by the quality of flash games released in recent times. My memories of flash games are games slow and without much grace. Recent games have very similar quality to the classics we play. Games like this, Give Up, Robot 2 (among other fantastic games of the adult swim) and the newly-released Rokko Chan definitely changed my perspective on flash games.

Re: Abobo's Big Adventure
Looks to me like they crammed every part of the game with references to other pop culture things, obscure or not. I think that just makes it even better.

That's why I enjoy the disgaea series so much.

@Tails- That's a different kind of thing, it's mostly references anime people would get. This game seems to appeal to most people born in the 80s or early 90s.

It still references stuff, which imo is the same thing. I was saying I would prolly like this too due to that.

Re: Abobo's Big Adventure
Lots of games make references. My point is this Abobo game goes way out of it's way to reference stuff people across all lines would get.

Except for the Prism Rangers {power rangers} and the character that is clearly supposed to be Captain Kirk, he even talks the same way. Still not quite the same thing, I agree.

I like that, I love it when there are all kinds of references, I feel good when I catch a reference to something kind of obscure.

Re: Abobo's Big Adventure
Yeah, I thought of his name earlier today. Kurtis is one of my favorite characters from the first one. I also loved calling Prinny Kurtis for support in the second.

The "P" key pauses the game.

Re: Abobo's Big Adventure
Game is addictive. Tried it for the first time this morning. I love the blowing in the cartridge on the loading screen. Does that bring back memories.
In case you don't want any surprises on later in the game don't read below.
