I watched Where in the World is Carmen Santiago? and Red Green and a bunch of BritComs on PBS as well as a few other shows. I never saw Reading Rainbow or Sesame Street.

Plenty? I've actually talked to many people from that age group and not one seemed to share your view about this. The people I talked to remember it as fondly as they do Seasame street.

Honestly I don't remember if I ever really watched it in a serious way. I remember it being on and seeing it from time to time but I'm sure we would've rather played NES or watched a cartoon instead. That being said I think it was a great idea and it probably helped get some kids to read, which is a great.
