Paper Mario
Paper Mario, when I first heard of such game I was like "eh? Paper?" When I saw the commercial however of Mario trying to rescue Peach from the clutches of Bowser trying to kill her with a paper shredder, and I saw the gameplay I instantly had to have it, so after a day or two I got it and well... I LOVED IT!!!
Paper Mario is basically a flat 2D Mario and co. in a 3D environment, which works out pretty well, it's also an RPG which really adds to the challenge, Mario is out to stop Bowser and rescue Peach (go figure) because Bowser stole a Star Rod and wants to use harness the power for his own evil deeds. Also in Paper Mario much as damn near any other RPG game out there you get Party members; these members are:
Goombario- A little Goomba who is to Paper Mario what Slippy Toad is to Star Fox, he's weak but informative (and Goombario doesn't get into much trouble) and just like Slippy he can also tell you the enemies HP which does come in handy in 99.9% of boss battles.
Kooper- A Koopa kid with a blue shell, he's one of my favorites because he has a move where you step on him, he turns into a shell and he can grab faraway items, also he's useful in fighting bob-ombs because of his shell.
Bombette- A pink female bob-omb who can blow holes in the cracks of the walls to access new areas and she's great in battle because her moves do some heavy damage
Parakarry- A Para-Troopa who can fly carrying Mario for a very short period of time, basically used to get over gaps you normally couldn't jump over.
Lady Bow- A green female boo, she too is one of my favorites because she can turn Mario invisible if ever enemies are around and you don't feel like battling, that move is also great for battle, and her attacks are cool to because she pimp slaps enemies multiple times either using her hands or her fan and they both hurt.
Watt- A light who can help you light dark areas, her attacks paralyze enemies
Sushie- A fish who if theres a body of water you can swim on her, pretty useless on dry land though.
Lakilester- A Lakitu on a cloud, who let's you use his cloud to travel over lava pits and other hazards, he also drops spinys on enemies which do significant damage.
OK now I'm gonna do the star spirits because, I kinda forgot there names but I remembered the party members names.
Well here are the scores:
Graphics- 5/5 2D Mario and co, 3D World...works for me
Sound- 5/5 The soundtrack is just amazing, as the Mario games are famous for good soundtrack
Replay Value- 5/5 I had fun playing the story and going back to look for star pieces, this game will keep you entertained if you love RPGs
Difficulty- 4/5 This game did get challenging, especially boss fights whom each boss gets more and more tough to beat so you'll find yourself purchasing powerups and health items sporadically.
Overall- 4.9/5 Paper Mario is another great RPG game for the N64, it's fun, challenging and above all one of my favorite Mario themed RPG games next to Super Mario RPG.

Re: Paper Mario
Nice review. I'd really like to play this. Is it only for the 64 or is it on another system?

It is on Virtual Console. One of the few N64 games on there.

Nope, and prospects of that ever being on it are pretty bleak, since it's a Rare game, and Rare is owned by Microsoft. I think it's available as a downloadable for Xbox 360 though.

The first one on N64 is the only one you really need =P. Tooie was kinda meh. The rest are totally different and I haven't played them so I won't judge, but I've heard that they all suck.

Re: Paper Mario
I loved this game, The Thousand Year Door is superior however.

Re: Paper Mario
TTYD is easily the best Mario RPG in my opinion, you should get it if you can.
I should do a review on it.

Re: Paper Mario
Super Paper Mario is good, but not nearly as good as the original first two games.
Still it isn't a bad game.

Re: Paper Mario
That commercial really brings me back, I really wanted the game, but I didn't ever get it because I didn't have a N64 at the time (not until 2005 actually).
I never was able to find it afterward.
