Security Tool.

I came bac home after the weekend and found my desktop was missing and the only thing working was security tool and woulnt let me run anything else. I started safemode and deleted files, and I ran Windows normally and everythig was back to normal.. I think. I did some research on th virus and for other people it wouldnt let them delete it. I could and emptied the bin, but i'd like to post this here for any anti-virus software that you guys recommend orif anyone has expiriance with the virus to tell me if im safe from it now thati deleted it or if its still somewhere on my hard drive.

Do you know what the virus is or how you got it? How do you know it was a virus and not some other error? How did you get rid of it or fix it?

Viruses very often can edit antivirus software so they can not be detected.

When that happens it can be hard to get rid of them. Antivirus programs are primarily designed to be ran before hand and protect you from getting infected, not ran after you are already infected. Here are some ways to try to get rid of a virus..
1. Online anti virus HouseCall - Free Online Virus Scan - Trend Micro USA < if you suspect you have a problem that you r antivirus is not catching then use this and or the next one.
2. Boot CD Antivirus Hirens Boot CD 10.4 (download torrent) - TPB < Very powerful, you can break your computer if you don't know what you are doing. But it can also bring it back from death if you do know what you are doing.
3. Free anti virus avast! Free Antivirus - Download Software for Virus Protection < if you can't get something better use this.
4. Top of the line paid antivirus Trial versions - G Data Software AG < this is what I use. It is very good protection but it slows my computer down some.
5. Windows comes with Windows Defender. It is very good for a free program. Use it but also use something above.

also, make sure you specify to run all the programs as the admin.

I use Norton, because my internet provider decided so. It's pretty good, and the scans don't slow down the computer much while they are running.

Its a well known virus, its designed to run at startup after your computer is restarted and makes fake symptoms of having a virus to scare the user into entering their credit card numbers into it. I know it can edit the antivirus software so I got a new one, AVG Free Addition. I found where the file was in my computer that was making it start up and deleted it.

I don't really trust AVG, my cousin downloaded AVG and shortly thereafter got a virus that completely killed her computer. The computer needs to have it's hard drive completely wiped and have a new OS installed.

I have delt with this problem before too. I use a combination of

Malwarebytes, rkill, and safe mode. as well as deleting files from the registry that can cause the problem. I noticed that no one had mentioned malwarebytes yet, it's a free program. the problem is tricking the virus into letting you run malwarebytes. a lot of patience is also required.

It got rid of it before it got into the memory so its fine now
