Charter school actually. New York has a large percentage of them and they are one of the main reasons why New York is ranked second in the country in quality of public schooling.

My son has been going to a charter school since he was three.

Yeah, well, charter schools are just as likely to do what that principal did. I believe there are many with uniforms in the U.S.

well, there you have it. private school = elitist

just out of curiousity, i'm curious what ranking you used. i'm not saying new york isn't high, i know that it is. but i've seen several lists that rank either new york, mass, ct, or new hampshire as the highest ranked.
