Your left engine is in flames, your fuel supply dwindling... can you weather the storm?
Simple flight sim. In-game graphics are pretty dreadful. |

Alex Kidd in Miracle World » Sega-Master-System » Discuss » Plays: 22935
Many centuries ago, on the planet Aries, there lived a boy called Alex Kidd. For seven years, he lived on Mt. Eternal studying Shellcore, an ancient art that makes one strong enough to break rocks into pieces. As he was leaving the mountain one day to travel to his spiritual homeland, a dying man told him that the peaceful city of Radactian was in grave danger. Before taking his last breath, the man gave Alex a piece of a map and a medallion made of Sun Stone.
There are eleven locations in which Alex must explore, each of them has its own unique dangers. In each location, Alex can collect bags of coins, which can be used to buy items at the shop and are used to help Alex get through each location (eg: motorcycle, peticopter, power bracelet, etc.) There are also traps that Alex must avoid like the ghost that chases him. He can also collect the Telepathy Ball that will help him read people's minds.
Later, Alex learns that in order to save Radactian from destruction, he must first defeat Janken the Great, Emperor of the planet Janbarik (he got his name from his expertise at the game of Janken -- or what people call "scissors, paper, stone" in the Western World. Janken has sent his henceman all over Radactian to prepare the game for Alex as he passes by them. In order to get past them, Alex must win three times at Janken. If he loses, he is turned to stone and vanished from Radactian forever. Later on in the game, Alex must play with the same henceman, but only this time, when Alex wins, they decide to play dirty.
Alex uses his fists to wipe out some of Janken's enemies such as birds, sea horses, bats, monkeys, frogs, and a few others. If his quest to save Radactian from the evil hands of Janken becomes difficult, he can instead use the power bracelet to perform the "Shocking Waves of Destruction", an ancient trick in the art of Shellcore.
Before Alex comes face-to-face with Janken, he should rescue his brother, Egle, from imprisonment, and get the letter and two medallions.
This is undoubtedly his most successful attempt. It was designed in competition to Mario and uses many of the same popular and successful elements. |

Alien 3 » Sega-Master-System » Discuss » Plays: 347
Alien 3 is loosely based on the movie of the same name. Players take on the role of Ripley and must work their way through a series of expansive and multi-layered levels freeing humans that the Aliens have captured. There is a time limit on each level; if players cannot find and free all the humans before the limit ends, the game is over. Since humans can be trapped in a variety of places on each level, players must thoroughly explore the stages in order to advance.
Players can acquire and use several different types of weapons after finding their ammunition pick-up. Ripley can carry multiple weapons at the same time, but each weapon has a limited ammunition supply. Ripley also has a health gauge that decreases as the Aliens attack or after landing from a long fall. If Ripley's health gauge reaches zero, players lose a life. Finding and collecting the appropriate power-up can replenish the life gauge.
In addition to jumping and shooting, players can use lifts, open doors, climb ladders and even crawl through tunnels in the levels. Players can shoot while crawling, but cannot shoot while jumping. It is possible to shoot vertically or even diagonally while standing, however. Aliens are much faster than Ripley and generally cannot be avoided, so they must be shot. Each creature takes several shots from the standard gun to dispatch, but unlike their movie cousins, do not leave an acid pool when killed.
As with the Mega Drive and Game Gear versions, this is brilliant. Guide Ripley through the treacherous space-ship in a stunning platform adventure. Loads to do and powerups galore make it a winner. |

Alien Storm » Sega-Master-System » Discuss » Plays: 235
Shapeshifting alien scum take over your city. Fry the slimy horrors and smash their bid for global conquest. Blast into action with fire blazers, electric whips and more!
The aliens are invading Earth, and it's up to the "Alien Busters" to wipe them out and destroy their creator. The Busters consist of Karla, Gordon, and Scooter. Each one of them have their own weapons and special attacks. When you start the game, you can select any one of these characters to play as. There are six missions to complete (eight in the Genesis version) with several stages, and each mission has you blasting aliens all the way to the end, from the streets to the mother ship where you'll meet the mother of all aliens. Unfortunately, blasting these aliens will not be an easy task, as they get tougher in every mission, and are capable of hiding into objects such as plants, postboxes, trashcans, drums, and several others. Each mission has an objective such as rescuing people destroying an UFO.
When you deal with a few aliens, flying heads will appear, which you can shoot to collect life or energy (by the way, life is important to you, since if yours get empty, you're dead). However, rather than using your ordinary weapons, you can use the special attacks that are enough to kill aliens you currently see. These types of attack vary depending on the character you choose at the start of the game. For instance, Gordon summons a U.S. Air Force Jet that drop bombs across the street, while Scooter is able to teleport out of his present location, and leave a series of bombs that will blow up aliens on sight, he will then re-appear. However, using your character's special attack uses up a lot of energy, and if you have little or no energy, you can't use it.
At the end of some missions is an alien boss, which you must destroy in order to complete the mission. Also, at the end of every one, you have to enter buildings where you participate in a shooting gallery. The object is to kill aliens popping up from several locations with the building.
Massive 'save the human race' game, with cool visuals, but a bit easy. A sort of Golden Axe in the 21st century. |

Arcade Smash Hits » Sega-Master-System » Discuss » Plays: 163
Three classic arcade games originally developed by Atari Games.
Centipede puts players in control of a ship at the bottom of the screen. The centipedes begin at the top of the screen and work their way down while you attempt to shoot them. Other insects that appear in the game, such as spiders and flies, move around the screen and attempt to destroy you as well.
In Breakout the lower end of the screen contains a paddle that moves horizontally. Covering the top half of the screen is a wall of bricks. Users are required to bounce a ball off of the paddle and into the wall of bricks consistently until all of the bricks have been removed. As players progress the wall of bricks changes shape, depth, and sometimes it also moves.
Missile Command is a game that ends when six cities are destroyed. Players are put in control of three turrets, each contain eight rounds of ammunition. From the top of the screen missles appear and at times planes fly overhead dropping bombs. By switching between turrets and using their ammunition wisely, players must take out each incoming item before it hits one of the cities located at the bottom of the screen. |

In the later half of the 21st century a robot is indispensable item for mankind. The control system that manages these mechanical creatures suddenly plotted a revolt against the human race. It is up to you to save humanity.

A superb shoot-'em up in all areas. The action is kept fast and furious and even though there are only six levels, it's quite a challenge. |

Asterix » Sega-Master-System » Discuss » Plays: 446
Getafix, the Druid whose magic potion has kept his village from falling into Caesar's hands, has been kidnapped! Join Asterix and Obelix as they try to rescue the druid and save the village!
This arcade adventure captures the feel of the comic books very well, but the gameplay looks a bit tired.
Based on the infamous French comics, Asterix is an example of the old cliche - a platform licensed game. Asterix and his fat friend Obelix must battle through many levels to do something or other... the plot is irrelevant.
The platform action is fairly simple, but that's not necessarily a bad thing - there are loads of levels, some of which are quite large, and it's enjoyable enough to play through them. They are split into 7 rounds, consisting of 3 or so stages, which you can choose to play through with Asterix or Obelix. At the end of most rounds, you have to defeat a boss, which is no doubt another character from the world of Asterix.
The levels are quite varied, and the graphics are pretty good. There is pretty much every platform game feature you could think of - destroyable blocks, bonus pickups, water sections, ice sections, moving platforms, springs, bonus stages, and so on. The levels actually differ depending on which character you choose, so there's even more to play through - 42 levels in total.
Overall, Asterix is an accomplished if deeply unoriginal platform game - if you like this kind of thing, you'll enjoy it and if you don't, don't bother. |

Asterix and the Great Rescue » Sega-Master-System » Discuss » Plays: 323
The game is based on the popular French comics series Asterix. It is 50 B.C., and the entire Gaul (today's France) is conquered by the Romans. Only one village still remains independent, thanks to the incredible powers of its two great warriors, Asterix and Obelix. In the game, they must first of all liberate the village Orvio and rescue their friend Dogmatix.
You can play as either Asterix or Obelix. You make your way through platform levels, fighting enemies by punching them, and jumping to access higher ares or to avoid falling down. There are also some items you can collect, such as bombs, with which you can overcome obstacles and advance in the game.
Nice graphics, with some of the best sprites on the Master System, but the platform gameplay is just a bit too predictable. |

Asterix and the Secret Mission » Sega-Master-System » Discuss » Plays: 298
Asterix and the Secret Mission is yet another platform game based on the French comic character. Much like Asterix, every level can be played as Asterix or Obelix, his clinically obese friend, and again the levels are different depending on which character you choose. There are 5 or 6 levels this time, far fewer than in Asterix, and again they are fairly simple, cliche-ridden platform levels - enjoyable, if you like platformers, but hardly ground-breaking. The plot this time is that you must collect the ingredients needed for a magic potion... one per level. You have to find the ingredient before you can exit a level. Overall, it varies from easy to tricky, and occasionally veers towards originality, but in the end is Yet Another SMS Platformer. |

Astro Warrior: Blast your way through three zones, including Galaxy Zone, Asteroid Zone, and Nebula Zone. Enemies will start making their way down the screen, but you only have bullets to deal with them. There are flashing points on the terrain in which you can shoot at, Shooting enough of these will cause a number of green ships, which when destroyed, will upgrade your firepower.
