The Red Skull is out to conquer the world once again (like he ever does anything else), so it's up to Captain America and the Avengers to stop him and his army of thugs. Inspired by the DC Comics serials.
A sad platform beat-'em-up that could be a lot better than it actually is. Gameplay is decent enough, but the graphics are rough and the bad sound gets on your nerves after a while. Fans of the comic books will like it, but that's about it.

Captain America and the Avengers is a side-scrolling, hand-to-hand combat game. Choose one of four characters to battle the Red Skull and his evil army: Captain America, Vision, Iron Man, or Hawkeye. Each character has special weaponry and special abilities.
Characters in Captain America and the Avengers can pick up objects like tires, rocks, barrels, and cars to use against enemies. As with most combat-style games, certain enemies are more difficult to defeat than others.
Between levels, there are flying stages where the characters take to the air to fight enemies. The flying stages require the heroes to destroy ships and flying enemies to advance to the next ground stage.
Each character in Captain America and the Avengers possesses unique abilities. Captain America throws his titanium shield to destroy enemies. Vision uses his mind blast. Hawkeye shoots arrows with his bow, and Iron Man uses his special armor's pulse cannons to do battle. Each character is also capable of a jumping attack. With these special attacks, the character jumps into air, hovers there for a moment, and then fires his weapon against enemies at ground level.
The ultimate goal of Captain America and the Avengers is to reach the Red Skull's island and defeat him before he can conquer the Earth.

There are also additional superheroes such as Quicksilver, Sub-Mariner, Wonder Man, and The Wasp who appear at certain points in the game to assist the player characters. Some of the super-villain foes that await the heroes are Klaw, The Living Laser, Whirlwind, The Grim Reaper, The Wizard, The Controllers, The Mandarin, The Juggernaut (from X-MEN), Ultron and Crossbones. According to Marvel Comics' lore, while trying to save his good friend, Rick Jones, nuclear physicist Dr. Robert Bruce Banner was caught in a blast from an atomic explosion. The resulting massive dose of gamma radiation altered Dr. Banner's body chemistry forever. Now, whenever the good doctor gets angry or frustrated, he turns into The Incredible Hulk, a huge, green superhero monster with massive strength.
Through the years, Hulk has amassed a number of foes, including the Leader, who has decided to conquer Earth because he figures it should only be ruled by someone of his superior intellect. To initiate his plan, he constructs a huge fortress within a savage forest and builds a vast army of battalion robots and genetically engineered mutants, such as lizards, slugs, cement-mixer men and sword-wielding Romans.
In addition, the Leader has enlisted the help of five boss character supervillains: Rhino, whose head butts can be lethal; Tyrannus, who fires thunderbolts; Absorbing Man, who wields a ball and chain and can transform into different substances; Abomination, who appears throughout the game and is almost as strong as Hulk himself; and The Brain, who releases an onslaught of smaller brains. Each boss (other than Abomination) guards the end of a level. Levels include City & Construction Site, Tyrannus' Labyrinth, The Leader's Fortress, The Leader's Interior and Final Confrontation.
If you haven't guessed by now, this game puts you in the title role, and it is your job to make Earth safe once again by making it past obstacles (such as spiky tusks and hover guns) while beating up a bunch of bad guys. Your appearance and abilities will vary among four different energy states. When your gamma energy is low and you are Bruce, you cannot fight, but you can access certain areas of the map not available to the others and pick up and fire a gun.
As Hulk, you can execute a number of standard moves, such as punching, slapping and headbutting. You can also grab and throw enemies and objects, such as stone pillars and jeeps. When you have upgraded to Super-Hulk, you can smash ceilings, pull off a sonic clap maneuver and execute a foot mashing technique. When your gamma energy is at its peak, you will Hulk-Out and become a savage, uncontrollable beast with immense power. To increase your energy, you must collect Gamma Capsules or Transformation Capsules that appear throughout the game.
You can find extra lives and extra credits in various areas within the levels, but they are usually hidden in bonus rooms or in places only accessible in Hulk-Out mode.

The game lets you take control of the Hulk through five levels of side-scrolling action: City and Construction Site, Tyrannus' Labyrinth, Leader's Fortress, Leader's Interior, and the Final Confrontation.
Along the way you'll be able to pick up Gamma Capsules which will transform you into Hulk, Super Hulk, or Hulk-Out, giving you the strongest moves available. You'll have to be careful not to take too much damage, however. Every hit by an enemy or obstacle reduces your Gamma level, reverting you back to Dr. Bruce Banner if it gets down to a certain percentage.

As The Incredible Hulk you must defeat The Leader's evil forces. Plans are afoot to produce a destructive biochemical army and The Leader has enlisted the assistance of your deadliest foes - Tyrannus, Absorbing Man, Abomination and Rhino in a quest for world domination! The Leader awaits you!
As with the Game Gear version, this mediocre platform beat-'em-up suffers from extremely repetitive, laborious gameplay. It's also way too easy - even on Hard Level.

Side-scrolling arcade game featuring the Marvel Comics superhero - an ordinary scientist who was exposed to an accidental superbust of gamma radition and can transform a superstrong, hulking figure when sufficiently angered.
Animation is good, character design and gameplay are not. Uncompelling graphics and sound, and only passable gameplay.

Both Iron Man and X-O Manowar can jump, punch, shoot an unlimited supply of laser beams (that can be upgraded through icons) and use a limited supply of fuel to fly. At the start of each mission, a computer screen informs you of your objectives.
During the game the player can collect medical icons to restore their health, and other icons to give more fuel, stronger laser blasts and a special icon that allows one mega blast from a character's armor chestplate. The game also allows one to destroy various gas canisters, metal wiring and control panels to locate more icons, deactivate certain weapons, or advance in the game.
