The Joker is on the loose and the only person who can stop him is, of course, Batman. You'll take the role of the caped crusader as you try to save Gotham from the Joker's evil plans. You will have to run and jump through a series of levels while taking out the Joker's henchmen along the way. Like any good superhero, you can dispatch the enemies with your batarang. In each level, there are also a number of power-ups that will give you improved weapons or extra lives. Can Batman get through all of the levels and defeat the Joker? Find out by playing BATMAN.

The game features gameplay similar to that of Pac-Man since it is viewed from an overhead perspective and involves Batman moving through mazes in order to collect enough items to move onto the next level.

One of a series of action platformers starring our favorite Caped Crusader, all but one of which were based on the first three live-action feature films. Based on the original characters created by Bob Kane for DC Comics.

Terrible graphics that get better as the series goes on. Mediocre game engine that doesn't show much improvement throughout. Average gameplay at best. All in all, they're rather flat and uninspiring.

Batman, straightforward port of the acclaimed 8-bit NES title that may look better but plays worse than its predecessor - based on the first feature film starring Michael Keaton, Kim Basinger, and Jack Nicholson.

Batman certainly has to earn his keep this time. You name the villain and he or she is plotting to take over Gotham City. The Joker, Two-Face, Catwoman, The Penguin, Poison Ivy, Scarecrow, Clayface, and The Riddler, along with their henchmen, are all lurking in some part of the city.

As the Caped Crusader, outfit your utility belt at the Batcave with smoke bombs, Batarangs, x-ray goggles, stars and more as you prepare to take on one criminal at a time through eight levels. Use your grappling hook to swing out of harm's way and prepare to race through the streets in the Batmobile. Konami's The Adventures of Batman & Robin is designed to closely follow the animation, artwork, and style of the cartoon series from which it is based. "Alfred, it's time to get things ready for another night on the town."

Once again, deadly peril threatens Gotham City. Three of of the city's top criminals (The Joker, Two-Face, and the Mad Hatter) have escaped from Arkham Asylum and are teaming together to bring the city under their iron control. The Dynamic Duo must leap into the breach and save the people from this terrible threat. An original game inspired by the hit Warner animated series. Based on the original characters created by Bob Kane for DC Comics.

At long last! A game worthy of the title it bears! A 3D action platformer with great graphics and animation culled directly from the TV show. This is the ONLY Batman game for the Genesis that you will ever need.

Based on the movie of the same name, Batman Forever puts you in the role of either Batman or Robin. Whether you decide to play as the Caped Crusader or the Boy Wonder, your job is to save Gotham City from the clutches of The Riddler and Two-Face (and the latter's sidekicks, Sugar and Spice).

Throughout the game's eight levels of play, you must battle the aforementioned villains and their henchmen (such as killer clowns) using a variety of punch and kick moves and special bat gadgets, such as Batarangs, smoke pellets, tranquilizer darts, and grappling hooks. Some of the levels contain puzzles, such as hidden switches to pull and pieces of gadget blueprints to find.

The normal game mode of Batman Forever roughly follows the plot of the film, taking place in such locations as the Second Bank of Gotham City, the circus, and an abandoned subway station. Your ultimate goal, in addition to saving your fair city, is to rescue the beautiful Dr. Chase Meridian from The Riddler. She is being held at Claw Island, The Riddler's nightmarish factory. Throughout the various levels you can find helpful items (such as Riddler boxes and Two-Face coins) for gaining lives, energy, time, and tips.

A special training mode of play lets you, or you and a friend, hone your combat skills by pitting you (as hero or villain) against Batcomputer-generated characters in one-on-one (or two-on-two) fights.

The player plays as either Batman or Robin. There is also a fighting game mode called "training mode" where the player can play as Batman, Robin, or any of the enemies found throughout the game against either a computer-controlled opponent, against a second player, or cooperatively against two computer opponents.

The controls are largely based on move lists and key sequences. Some gadget moves involve moving away from the enemy right before pressing a punch or kick button, which creates problems since the game only keeps the players facing enemies if they're close enough to each other.

The Joker has returned and still wants to destroy Gotham. Once again it's up to Batman to stop him. You take control of the Dark Knight as he tries to fight his way through seven levels of intense action that move from Gotham City to a remote island. Fortunately, the caped crusader has a number of weapons, including a crossbow and batarangs, which will help him get past the bad guys. Batman can also avoid fights by using his grappling hook, hanging on to structures, or jumping. Only Batman can stop the Joker and keep Gotham safe in BATMAN: Return of the Joker.

Batman Returns is a side-scrolling action game based on the Tim Burton movie of the same name. As Batman you'll use an assortment of fighting moves and an armory of gadgets, such as a Batarang, grappling hook, and other projectile weapons. You must follow the storyline of the movie and save Gotham City by stopping Penguin, Catwoman, and the Red Triangle Circus Gang. The seven stages of battles will take you to the city rooftops, the circus train, Gotham Plaza, the streets of Gotham, and the Penguin's lair, where you must fight the Penguin and his tiny, missile-launching penguins. Unlike the other six levels, in which you control Batman as he runs, jumps, and fights, stage five puts you in the driver's seat of the Batmobile.

Frigid winter winds swept over an already chilled Gotham City. Random street crimes were running at an all-time high, despite the holidays. Down below, in the city's frozen sewers, Oswald Cobblepot, known as The Penguin, planned more mayhem and schemed the take over of the fightened metropolis. His loyal army of missle-packing Penguin Commandos and the bizarre Red Triangle Circus Gang are energized by the evil genius of the web-footed orphan. A desperate call to Batman goes up. Partner with Batman to salvage Gotham City from The Penguin's cold-hearted plot. Guide him in swift, life-like moves from dark alleys to rooftops in vivid scenes based on the hit movie, "Batman Returns." Control his combat style, and help conduct relentless interrogations of The Penguins many allies. Use the Batcave computer to input clues, analyze evidence, and review enemy bios. You're in charge of weapons, too. Stock Batman's Utility belt with enough heat to match the diverse fighting styles of The Penguin and cold-blooded, sewer-dwelling minions. Gotham City is in trouble.

Follows in the Genesis's footsteps in that it looks great, but is fairly unplayable. Waste of a good licence

The NES version of the game is a beat 'em up game, but closer in style and gameplay to the Double Dragon series. The player only has one life bar (which can be expanded through health packs). It implements a password-save system. Of special note are the two side-scrolling racing levels in which the player controlled the Batmobile and the Batskiboat.

Evil is afoot in Gotham City, but no one knows where it's coming from. The only thing everyone knows is that Batman will be there to stop it when it does strike. You take the role of the caped crusader as you fight your way through levels filled with enemies. Initially, your only means of fighting will be with your fists. But once you pick up a batarang, you can use it for ranged attacks. You will also have to use Batman's cable gun and jumping abilities to explore every area in the game. Since there are two difficulty levels, you'll never feel overwhelmed. Save Gotham City from its plague of evil in BATMAN: The Animated Series.

The story begins with the Joker escaping from an insane asylum, and through various henchmen, tries to send Gotham City into chaos. Batman must survive several side-scrolling levels with various tricky jumps, and defeat a multitude of enemies and bosses to ensure that Gotham is safe.

Batman is armed with a utility belt that allows him to collect various types of icons throughout the stages in order to shoot different types of baterangs and projectiles. The game's password feature also helped the game from becoming too difficult.

The music was composed by Naoki Kodaka, Hara Nobuyuki and Shinichi Seya. It also features several remixes of the themes from the Megaman series, most notable the opening theme being a remix of the boss select theme from Megaman 2.

Batman - Revenge of the Joker, a somewhat improved game that draws directly on the comic book for its inspiration, this appears to be a humdrum port of the mundane Amiga original.
