foward to since day one it would do a number on me.

That's true.

But then again, Capcom can't say anything about who's in, they always save their most
popular characters for last. (like Frank, Megaman, and Strider).

It's a good marketing ploy.

Cause a lot of buzz just before release so everyone rushes out to buy it. Do it too early and the buzz may die down a bit before the release.

Capcom reveals some characters they rejected were close to making the cut, especially one
Outspoken Lawyer and one Intergalactic Surfer:

Maybe they'll be DLC characters as they plan on:

If they always intended to have the characters, why the hell wouldn't they just add them in the first place.

That's my problem with Capcom: they are as bad about releasing a game they see as incomplete, with the intention of adding overpriced DLC later on, as the people who made Call of Duty.

Also, I am thoroughly dissatisfied with the roster of this game, no Dan, not a single character from Rival Schools, no Punisher, no Dmitri, no Lord Raptor, all the best characters from Darkstalkers are out, no Captain Commando so far as I've seen, no Strider.

Even if I had a PS3/Xbox360 and the sixty dollars, I wouldn't buy this game, I'd rather go for a fighting game without a disappointing roster.

How are they supposed to make more money after the game sells?!? I mean really, they take such a big loss with used/rental sales that they have to recoup their losses by holding back content for DLC. Duh.

Oh, I know that was sarcastic and bitter, I'm sure you are aware of the fact that the game generates more than enough profit from sales.

Used game sales and rentals are supposedly hurting them more than piracy. I don't understand how that works. At least a used game is sold once, and a rental might compel someone to buy the game for themselves, piracy generates zero profit.

It's shameful the way the gaming industry is trying to screw it's own customers by killing used sales and rentals. No other media does this and if they tried it would be laughable.

My argument thats for DLC is always relativly simple.. and its not that they are hodlgn back chars intended to be in (Outside of jll and shuma). this allows them to have the game out, and take thier time and patience in creating whatever other characters they think of. then releasing those characters over time. For ocne the team has a reason to be slow with chars, as they are all being rendered in 3d instead of the usual 2d. Over all, it release the game on time, and gives the people workign some extra work time for other characters. [such as phoenix wright and strider] Who knows maybe the end roster for this game will be even larger than MVC2's roster^^. lol. they can also then get feed back from fans, and what fans are saygn to begin work on requested characters. [like again phoenix and the frank west guy]

also to add in here, id rather have optiosn of extra characters than need to wait for those, 'expanded or Super' versions Capcom likes to make.

I think DLC content is to make more of a profit while they still have many customers playing
their game. I don't like it, but at least it has some value.

I'm still hoping the Silver Surfer and Phoenix Wright make it into MvC3.
(Maybe the Punisher and Nemesis as well)

@Belmontzar- That's a whole lot of wishful thinking. It's one to thing to release content months after release and have it include a lot of content but to just release some characters and outfits is purely to grab more money from gamers. It's not like they're rushed to the point of having to leave characters out. Don't games get delayed constantly anyways? There is no excuse to release a fighting game and then a couple months later charge people for a couple characters.

Well don't hold your breath about that option then. Didn't Capcom just do this with SF4? Instead of releasing a content patch they released an entire new game at a slightly reduced price?

Dlc is just that though, EXTRA not needed. Characters, outfits,modes, or whatever, its not needed and they are not forcing you to get them. But you will lol.

I know it's not needed but it's still wrong to take parts out of a game and hold them for later and charge customers for it. There's lots of DLC out there that I would love to experience but I'm not paying another 10-20 bucks on top of the 60 I paid to buy it new.

And before anyone says it, no it's not always possible to buy the game used. The industry is working at full strength to make that option go away. Besides working with stores like Gamestop to raise their prices and make it not worth it they also have techniques in place that force you to buy new or pay for content that is literally on the disc. Money is the motivation and we're being taken for a ride.

but thats just t really, some times its not on the disk, and is made later. OR was an idea on the disk that was made and updated later. That is my point really, DLC are the extra bits that might have small data, or no data at all for the game. while it sucks to hear abotu all teh problems going towerds us poor folk who can only aford games used or on super sale.

I have no problem with that. In fact I think that's one of the best things to happen to console gaming in recent history.

An example of good DLC is the Overlord/Shadow Broker DLCs from Mass Effect 2. I forget how big Overlord was but it had a bunch of content. Shadow Broker was a gig and a half worth of content. For those who don't know these things that's pretty big for DLC. Some installed full games are between 4-6 GB.

An example of bad DLC is the Star Wars characters from Soul Caliber 4. They intentionally disabled Darth Vader from the 360 and Yoda from the PS3 so they could charge for them later. By later I mean within weeks of release if not earlier(I forget). Of course they won't admit that and they claim they needed additional time or w.e nonsense but it's pretty obvious what happened.

Is it wrong for me to feel like a company should release a finished product when it ships to retail stores? Imo if they don't finish it they should add the other content free since it's not the customers fault that they can't manage their own game well enough to finish on time.
If they wanna work on new content and charge for it I'll happily pay, if it's worth it.

I agree, that many games do hold back content for DLC, including contnt on disk that shouldn't have been held back. IT just sounded like you were upset about DLC in general. I personally like DLC because, of well, you tube. Honestly all I need to do is wait a day or so, and the DLC info for whatever new characters wll get released, FASTER even for games like MVC3. Sites like you tube are great for those of us who have no idea f DLC is worth it or not. But I agree fully with what your saying there, but now for a more fun topic about all of this.

Outside of Jill and Shuma, who else do you think will be fast made DLC? And who woudl you want to BE Dlc?
Many of the dark stalkers fans are voting for Jon Talbain, and of course, assuming hes not there, people will want frank west.. and phoenix wright..

Speakign of phoenix.. how would he work as a fighting game character? I honestly cant picture him in that type of set up. I mean for a smash bros game with assists and such I could see Phoenix and his speach bubbles slamming people.. but not as a standalone fighter..

@Belmontzar- I agree about waiting and checking youtube when DLC is released. I also read about them on Xbox.com because people are brutally honest and they love to give their opinions about everything. The main thing I look for is how much content it has and if it advances the game or goes along with it. I don't care much for the DLC that is some gimmicky side quest that's only slightly related to the game itself.

I have no actual input on this topic. It seems like I'm just sick of these flashy games with ridiculous combos that require no skill. It's fun for a while but it loses it's luster quickly, imo.

As for Darkstalker characters, if I'm not mistaken, the developer himself said that
he wants only four characters, Felicia, Morrigan, Hsien-Ko, and Jon.

But, some characters like Frank or Megaman are very popular, so I suspect them
to be in over some of the less popular characters.

I'd like to see Phoenix Wright in a fighting game, maybe he'll throw coffee at his opponents.

I know, most industries realize that rental and used sales are inevitable, and don't complain about it.

Back to the DLC thing:
I am strongly opposed to all DLC, because it all boils down to a few reasons it exists:
The game was incomplete when it was released, so they are releasing the rest of it, and charging extra for it.
If I spend $60, I want a product that is complete, it is the same as buying a knife without a handle, still functional, but something is missing. Soon thereafter you go to a store and find that you can buy the handle, something that should have been included in the first place.
"Hurr durr I'm a multi-million dollar company, I need more money"
Sorry, I don't think I should be feeding the wallets of the rich when they decide they aren't rich enough.
Oftentimes, the content is already on the disk.
Of course I am going to be pissed off that you sell me a game, but I cannot access parts of it without paying more money. Especially when the content is already right there on my disk.

DLC has the potential to be one of the best things a game could have, but it is always executed poorly.
-It should be free, I've already payed way to much for the game.
-The effects should be substantial, not just a new level in Mario Kart or a new Ryu clone in Street Fighter.
-It should be bug free. So many DLCs have problems.

Capcom said it's because it's part of the modern video game buisness model, which can help
boost sales from that "indefiniteness" that DLC does.
