How to Play Games at Retro Uprising

Sadly RetroUprising has not been able to keep up with technology changes and only runs in a few specific web browsers. Check back every few months to see if this has changed.

You must be on a Windows computer. Any non-Windows device will not work. And you must use one of the browsers listed below.

There is an alternative method to play Retro Uprising games that does not require any special set up. It is only available to donors. This method doesn't allow for score submissions and still requires Windows but it does not require a special browser.

You only need to follow one of the following options.

1. Best Option: From the newest version of Microsoft Edge
   • click "..." from the top right-hand corner of Microsoft Edge.
   • click "Settings"
   • click "Default browser" from the left hand menu
   • change "Allow sites to be reloaded in Internet Explorer mode" to "allow"
   • right click any RU tab in Edge and select "Reload tab in Internet Explorer Mode"
   • toggle the option to "Open this page in IE next time".
   • click "done".
2. In older versions of Microsoft Edge from 2022 or earlier
   • Click "..." from the top right-hand corner of MS Edge
   • Click "More Tools"
   • Choose "Open with Internet Explorer".
3. IE Tab Extension For Chrome Based Browsers (Chrome, Opera, Brave and many others) (This extension costs $20 after a free 2 week trial. This is a 3rd party, no money goes to Retro Uprising.)
   • Install IE Tab for Chrome
   • Open IE Tab extension options.
   • Add "http*retrouprising.com/*" to the "Auto URLs".
4. Alternative version of IE Tab Extension For Chrome Based Browsers Basically the same as the above option but the free trial doesn't expire. To unlock the auto load features is $9. This is a 3rd party, no money goes to Retro Uprising.
   • Install IE Tab for Chrome
   • Open IE Tab extension options.
   • Add "http*retrouprising.com/*" to the "Auto URLs".
5. IE Tab Extension For FireFox Based Browsers
   • Install IE Tab for FireFox.
   • Open IE Tab extension options.
   • Add "http*retrouprising.com/*" to the "Auto URLs".
6. Firefox version 40.
   • Disable Autoupdate.
7. Firefox version 40 Portable - This is same as above but the portable version that can be installed on a USB thumbstick or installed alongside a newer version of FireFox.
   • Disable Autoupdate.
8. If you are using Windows 8 or older
   • You should have an IE short cut in the start menu. Click it and you are good to go. Or...
   • Click Start
   • Type iexplore
   • Press enter.

If you are using one of the supported browser above, the first time you click a play link you will be prompted to install ArcadeOX. Follow the prompts and after it installs, click the play link again and the game will load.
