Re: Neo Geo Recommendations
I don't have the cartridge system as it was so expensive, but I do have a Neo Geo CD. The Neo Geo CD had about 85% of the games released on the MVS system. Of course, as you said, the Neo Geo was made to primarily appeal to arcade players,so most games do consist of side scrollers and fighting games. Still, the system does have several good games that deviate from that format. Here are some of my favorites (fighting games included):
- Neo Turf Masters: This is still one of my favorite golf games. Gotta' love when the Japanese announcer yells out, "on the gween!!!" in her cute little voice.
- The Samurai Shodown series.
- Samurai Shodown RPG: I'm not 100% sure, but I think this may be exclusive to the CD system, so you may be out of luck on that one.
- Magician Lord: A very cool action adventure game. It is side scrolling, but fun.
- Cross Swords: A fun almost FPS action game. I have the sequel, but alas I think that is CD exclusive too.
- Pulstar: One of my favorite space shooters. Similar to R-Type, but tough as Hades.
- 2020 Super Baseball: A fun futuristic baseball game. However, I only recommend playing it with a friend, as the computer cheats badly. (Darn quarter muncher!)
- Fatal Fury Special: A great fighting game. The other Fatal Fury games are also worth a play, but FFS is the best of the bunch.
- Top Hunter: An absolutely awesome side scrolling action game. A lot of fun.
Those are the ones I can think of off hand. I will check my game collection and try to recommend some more later.
