"My mind is my weapon. My brother has his sword, King Robert has his warhammer and I have my mind... and a mind needs books as a sword needs a whetstone if it is to keep its edge. That’s why I read so much, Jon Snow."
Why? Namco and Sega already had characters in Smash.
So did Capcom. Ninty wants characters who can sell action figures though, so it doesn't surprise me that they don't pull from Tekken or Virtua Fighter.

What I'm saying is that it shouldn't be surprising, Nintendo already has been working together with these guys.
I'm more surprised at the fact that they're going to a lot of third parties, ryu is a staple but as mentioned virtua fighter isn't really around and tekken you'd think is too out of nintendo.
Nintendo is working with Namco Bandai right now on Pokken Tournament, I don't think it's out of their reach now. It's look like Sakurai is a big fan of fighting games in general so it was probably an easy include.
It's nice to see Nintendo diversify beyond their usual franchises.
I agree. Gives me hope for an Earthworm Jim reveal.
Kind of unrelated, but since you mentioned it, the creator of Earthwrom Jim is working on a game called Armikrog, which is a multiplat slated to also show up on the Wii U.
I think the odds of it getting a Smash trophy are pretty slim though, friend.
