@count. The correct answer was colon. I forgot I was actually giving points away for this. Wow, that is going to upset the balance of things.

Well, I have nothing to lose here, so I'm going to keep my last lifeline and wager a guess.
I can't imagine that they'd cancel the event because the host was sick, so I'll eliminate A.
I doubt that a terrorist bomb scare in New York would cancel the Awards in Los Angeles, so D is out.
A Los Angeles earthquake could definitely interrupt the Academy Awards.
I also remember that Ronald Reagan was nearly assassinated in the early 80s. Something like THAT could delay an event like the Academy awards, but I'm not certain.
I don't remember there being an earthquake in 1981 but it seems like the most logical answer.
I'm going with C) Los Angeles Earthquake

Re: Who Wants To Be A Millionaire
@Billy. Sorry I forgot to tell you. 32K is a safety point so the 64K question is a freebe. If you miss the 64 you still get the 32. What do you think you would have guessed?
@Tanc. The answer was Assassination attempt on the President.

Soon after I posted I thought about that. To tell you the truth, looking back on it I probably would have honestly guessed '27. '20 is just coming out of WWI, '35 is Great Depression era and '40 was during WWII. '27 would have been during the "Roaring 20's", so that would have been the reasoning I would have gone with said choice. Any chance I could get a substitute question?
