I thought that was a cool idea as opposed to doing the generic points per level up. Also Oblivion has a lot of items that can really enhance your skills.
One thing I really did like in Fallout 3 was the V.A.T.S. system. Very sweet!

Well yeah I understand how to get the most out of my character but I still think it's wrong that I have to basically write down my stats after I level so I can get the best bonuses for the next. Hopefully they change it for the next one.

Re: Fall-Out 3
I hear you. I agree it could be a bit more refined, but I just like the overall approach as opposed to just a set number of points to allocate.
In other news, did you hear that some of the DLC in FO3 was completely crashing the game? That sucks as I was about to download it.

Meh I'm not surprised at all. Too bad game companies don't realize that the average gamer remembers stuff like this.

Re: Fall-Out 3
True. I read that they were going to try to fix it, but apparently what happenedcis after the DLC was installed the game would crash every time you entered a town.

Re: Fall-Out 3
It just makes no sense to release content that is flawed nowdays. This is the age of the beta testers. If microsoft let some trusted members test these things then we'd see less problems.
The problem with that is less money over all. You'll lose some buyers once they test the content and not like it or play enough of it to not care about owning it.

Re: Fall-Out 3
It's true. I think the original idea behind DLC was that programmers could release more content when it was ready versus having the whole game completed say before Christmas like it used to be. However, it seems that the reality is that programmers are still rushed as they want to get as much DLC out as soon as possible while the game is still hot. It kind of seems bizarre, but I think it is probably motivated by business. I find it very hard to believe that Bethesda didn't know about the crash bug prior to releasing the DLC.

Re: Fall-Out 3
You can rest assured that it's all about money. There's no question at all when they release stuff like two weeks after the game is out or stuff that's on the disk but needs DLC to unlock it. Not every DLC is a scam but the vast majority are obvious money grabbing.
That being said I love the idea of DLC and I'd hate to see it go away. It just needs to be redone with the players in mind. Good luck with that right?

Re: Fall-Out 3
As our friend Teal'c would say, "Indeed!"
I won't hold my breath waiting for it to be done right, but here's hoping. Some DLC I have downloaded has been, I feel, well worth it, but it's true a lot of it is just stuff like 3 costumes for $5 and the like.

Re: Fall-Out 3
Yeah I've only downloaded from the Wii but it was worth it. Some 360 stuff is worth it but not for me. I just don't care enough yet to download anything.

Re: Fall-Out 3
I have downloaded a few classic games on the Wii .
On 360 I have primarily downloaded extra maps in Halo 3 and some costumes (as much as it pains me) in SFIV.

Re: Fall-Out 3
Yeah those costumes better be good to pay extra money for. I doubt it's hard to make a few more outfits before the game launches. I can't see paying more for it, how much is included?

Re: Fall-Out 3
Normally the packs have like 3-5 new costumes per character, so that's like about 50-60 costumes total in something like SFIV. It depends on the game, though.

To be honest, I don't remember off hand. I will try to fire up the 360 later and get back to you.

Re: Fall-Out 3
I started playing Fallout 3 again after getting mad at New Vegas for spawning my followers into walls. I downloaded Broken Steel, which saved my character from being stuck in the last room(I'm too dependent on autosave, I guess). Even before my bug issues, I still enjoyed this one more than the sequel. I like just screwing around and exploring instead of completing quests(although I do a lot of that too).
Also, Grim Reaper's Sprint is broken. Really, really broken.

Re: Fall-Out 3
The game autosaves in a room that is inescapable at the end of the game. At that point, all you can do is beat the game, unless you had saved beforehand.

Re: Fall-Out 3
I liked New Vegas more than FO3. Something about the environments in 3 were just bland. NV felt more raw and real. I'm still gonna go back and beat 3 but for now it lost my interest.

Same reason I always liked New Vegas more than Fallout 3. That's why I've been playing it recently. The better one in my opinion.

Re: Fall-Out 3
You mean the first two Fallout games? Well yeah, duh, they're much better than the new stuff. The problem is the way it's presented turns off a lot of people. The new FPS style appeals to a huge majority of gamers.

The FPS style does draw in more gamers, I guess it is more accessible.

Re: Fall-Out 3
It certainly draws me in. I'd like it either way but the FPS style really adds depth to the world and makes you feel more drawn in. The older ones are just that, older. They feel like a retro game and I'll always love that but the past is the past, it will never come again.
