Re: NFL

Ollie Matson, Hall of Fame running back for the Cardinals, dead at 80

also, the Lions were busted tampering with the Chiefs so the Chiefs get another seventh round pick and switch places in the fifth round with the Lions, meaning the Lions are 23rd and the Chiefs are 9th

Re: NFL

Palmer said to the press that he refuses to ever play in that stadium again. I wonder if that includes being on the away team.

Re: NFL

If this is true then I'm done with the NFL: (emphasis mine)

Quote:
Rules defining a defenseless player will be expanded and now will include eight categories:
A quarterback in the act of throwing;
A receiver trying to catch a pass;
A runner already in the grasp of tacklers and having his forward progress stopped;
• A player fielding a punt or a kickoff;
• A kicker or punter during the kick;
• A quarterback at any time after change of possession;
• A receiver who receives a blind-side block;
• A player already on the ground.

Seriously, you can't hit a quarterback while he's throwing the ball or a receiver trying to catch a pass?

As far as I know they're just proposed rule changes, nothing to worry about yet.

Though if the QB rule goes through, it seems you could only hit them if they run, or you get to them before they can throw. If passed you'll see QB's abuse it by starting to throw anytime they are going to get hit.

I really hope the part about a WR trying to catch a ball and a player being wrapped up being considered defenseless only applies to people trying to use their helmets to light them up.

Re: NFL

Yes, but you need to look between the lines. What you are really protecting are the high dollar assests. No one really wants an NFL where the star players are knocked out due to injuries. Sure, we like big hits, but not as much as we like touchdowns.

Re: NFL

Speak for yourself. Some of us love defensive games.

I actually get more excited when Pitt's defense is clicking then when their offense is.

I want to see hits, sacks, rushes for loss of yards, smashmouth, gritty football.

Re: NFL

That is because Pittsburgh can't win Super Bowls when they get 30+ hung on them.

I'm not speaking for myself. I'm speaking for the millions that play fantasy football, for the everyone that subscribes to NFL Red Zone (if you haven't, you should), I'm speaking for everyone that buys an NFL jersey, of which 19 of the top 20 are offensive players. (I will give credit where credit is due, Polamalu is the only defensive player to make the list, #3, ahead of Big Ben, just a testament to where SteelerNation's priorities lie)

People don't line up for 9-3 games. They want action. They want 31-28. The NFL is an offense driven league, but more specifically, it is a $$$$ driven league. Manning, Brady, Brees, Sanchez, Rivers, that is where the money is at.

It isn't a surprise that the Players Union are going to have P. Manning, Brady, and Brees as lead plantiffs in the upcoming lawsuit, they are the most recognizable players in the league.

Re: NFL

I understand the reasoning behind Tzar Goodell.

This is to the point of ridicule though. Why even have a defense take the field? Just tie flags to everyone's hips and be done with it.

@Tails: Jim is referring to Brees as being a media darling which has nothing to do with his capabilities and more to do with his ability to be in NyQuil commercials.

Actually, it is based on his stats for the past 3 season, ranking of qb's and so on, but whatever.

And no QB is more of a media darling than Manning.

Re: NFL

The point is, the lead plaintiffs are Manning, Brady, and Brees because they're media darlings.

They're media darlings because the NFL felt they were both marketable and are best able to portray what the NFL wants the "face" of the league to be. That being white, Christian, small-town, down-to-earth, middle-American, good-ol'-boys.

Brees is a game manager.
Manning is a pocket passer who chokes under pressure.

It has little to do with their stats and nearly everything to do with their ability to appeal to housewives.

Re: NFL

That rule where you pretty much can't ever hit the QB would be is stupid. What kind of game is it if the offense has such a huge, unfair advantage?
It would be like if the bosses in Final Fantasy could not damage you if you had selected attack.
