Re: Video Games are bad for Marriages
Thanks, I'm going to be 23 "soon", I do talk on personal experience, and paying attention in philosophy classes and human relationship classes that are mandatory to get engineers in touch with their feelings helps with the stuff that I just couldn't figure out.
@stevencassidy Fine, girls and boys aren't exactly the same, girls like talking about their feelings more (sometimes), and boys tend to avoid feeling weak (most). Sure, you might not care at all if she goes out with her girlfriends and it might seem confusing why she gets upset if you go out with your buddies, but I bet you'd get upset if the girl you really like keeps saying she likes you but ignores you and goes over to her girlfriends. That's how girls feel when boys go out with their buddies. It might seem unreasonable, a bit exaggerated, but the only problem is we're insecure.
The second point of this paragraph is actually another subject... but I might as well mention it so that maybe you guys understand us a bit better. 1 reason we're insecure, we're afraid you guys aren't serious about the relationship. 2 reason we're insecure, ladies in adult videos are very fake, and getting faker, so we think guys are looking for perfect women and we think we aren't the perfect woman. This doesn't happen to most boys because it isn't all that hard to look decent when you're a boy. It takes lot's of hard work to look fabulous as a girl. 3... I had one, which I really liked, but it's way past my bed time so I forgot. Tomorrow(when I wake up), if anyone is still interested, I might remember or same something deep and profound. I'll probably be more inspired if someone brings up an interesting point to talk about.

I know that sounds cool to you but it isn't actually true. If you spend time with anyone, male or female, you'll learn to understand them more unless you can't stand each other for some reason.
I'm really not trying to take a shot at you here I just think you have a jaded view of women. You keep bringing up confusion, you know what gets rid of that? Communication. I know it may sound kind of fem but it's true. If you wanna understand women(or men) you have to be willing to listen to them.

I'm not saying she speaks for all women but I think she has a better perception of it than you or I.
I gotta say it's refreshing to have another female point of view around here, and this one can spell!(no offense sez <3 )

Re: Video Games are bad for Marriages
I can speak from personal experience. My wife looks at video games as a childish waste of time, but she understands I enjoy them because it gives me a chance to "zone out". I try to be respectful about the amount of time I play (30min - 1hr/day), and also when I play. It's always later at night, the baby is sleeping, dinner is cleaned up, etc., etc.
Sure it annoys her, and calls it a "turn-off" but I respond the same way every time: "Would it turn you on more if I was sitting on my ass watching Television?" The truth is, that's what I'd be doing otherwise.
Now, if she wants to spend time together watching TV, that's different. A smart husband will agree to that anytime, even if we are forced to sit through the Bachelor.
In the end, it's all about respect and moderation. What isn't?

Why is that always said as a negative thing. Children always know the best ways to waste time.

I hate television. At least with video games you're actively participating in something. With television you're just passivly staring at a screen in some sort of coma.

Thats exactly the reason why I don't watch TV anymore. Sitting and staring is too boring for me.

I kinda treat t.v. like the radio, just as background, except when chumley and the rest of the pawn stars are on, then it's got my full attention.

My thoughts exactly. Of course, that might actually contribute to the whole "video games are bad for your marriage" theory.
I can't count how many times I've died in a game and started hurling profanities at the computer screen. Those outbursts don't exactly get me the nooky.

No one has really said if they agree or disagree.
Do you think video games are bad for relationships?

Re: Video Games are bad for Marriages
There is no reason why video games should be singled out when the real issue at hand is men doing things that dont include their wives and the wives feeling insecure about it. Going golfing, watching wrestling, ufc, going out with buddies, anything, the list is practically endless.

If the love is true and deep, then it shouldn't cause a problem, but in a shallow relationship the one not playing, is likely to feel insecure about the other doing something that they are uninvolved in. This can be applied to things like playing golf, or watching sports.

Re: Video Games are bad for Marriages
I get why some people see it as childish, they don't really understand video games, I mean, my boyfriend likes yu-gi-oh! cards and many people called him childish, but he had his well thought out strategies and what not.
I agree it's better to play video games than to just mindlessly watch tv, actually I can't mindlessly watch tv, I need to be doing something else, so I also use tv as a radio. I can't even watch anime because siting reading the subtitles really annoys me, I'd rather read manga, or a book. I only mindlessly watch tv when I'm with my boyfriend.
I also yell at the screen when playing... it's fun
Back to the subject, Dudebro and Tanc are right, the more time you spend with someone, the more you know them, and if your going to be in a relationship, it's ok to do what you want to do, as long as you are aware of when, where and how.
Like I said, my boyfriend won't play WOW when I'm with him, and I won't do my homework when I'm with him. I try to do my homework before I see him, or tell him I have to go home early to do homework and he'll understand. Also, I know when he fight that most of the things he says mean something else. All I have to do is pay attention to what he is saying to figure out what's really bothering him. It be easier if he'd just be straight with me, but when he's mad he wants to seem strong and independent so he tends to act macho.
Sometimes it takes a while to really understand, but after some time, it's not hard to realize there are certain patterns, and talking to your partner about them helps you understand them better. So, bottom line... people who blame video games for lousy marriages just don't know how to communicate with their partners and are to insecure to understand them. So no, video games aren't bad for marriages, specially if the woman (if she's the one that doesn't play) tries to get involved once in a while with the husbands hobby.

Yeah, I'd rather read than watch t.v. mindlessly.
When I yell at the screen, my brother thinks I'm crazy, and when I say "Ouch" due to my getting hit in game, my brother sometimes thinks I am actually hurt.

For me, it's been since I turned 12 (Dec. 8, 2005) when I got the massive and outdated Gameboy. No color, and it took a lot of batteries.

You could use those old Gameboys as a weapon, becasue it was so big. Its basically a brick with a screen.

Yeah, and since it was so out of date, everyone thought it was a brick. 6th graders really aren't that smart.

People these days only remember game systems that came out within the past 5 years.
