Not at all. I'm just making an observation. I'm not looking to judge if your problems are serious or not.

Re: Day or Night?

It really depends on the time of year for me. As of right now, I'm an early riser. We'll see what happens when April rolls around. I used to be a huge night owl, but that was because I worked the night shift through college (11pm to 7am). It really depends on what my family is doing at the time.

Re: Day or Night?

after work im ofter super tired, and a 20 minute nap makes me absolutely energized, if i try to go to sleep from around 12-5 am i toss and turn, then when its time to get up at, well 8:30 today im super tired, and this is my cycle, its annoying but coffee helps.

Re: Day or Night?

I lean towards being a night owl, but I'm really neither.

During the weekdays I wake up around 7:30 and go to bed around 11 or Midnight.
On the weekends, I get up around 8am and stay up until perhaps 1am, getting half drunk and playing around on Retrouprising!

Re: Day or Night?

I prefer the night life, but I have to wake up to go to work Monday thru Friday. I get super grouchy if I don't get enough sleep but I try to avoid taking naps during the day. I hate not being sleepy when I know I should be in bed.

I'm good for 4 - 5 hours of sleep on week nights. Saturday and Sunday morning I'll sleep in for about 8 hours.

Re: Day or Night?

How many hours you sleep depends totally on the individual, although the recommended for adults is about 7 hours. I read a lot about this because I never know if I can sleep properly or not. Recently I've read many articles on this, including that women need more than 5 hours of sleep or else we are more likely to suffer from hypertension.

And about the REM sleep... if you don't get enough or are constantly woken just when your entering REM sleep, studies found you'll develop paranoia, and/or go crazy... can't remember the article properly but it really got me thinking

Here are some links to the more recent articles I've read on this:

Re: Day or Night?

I agree with Nikegirl, everyone has a different number of hours needed for sleeping. I need around 7 to 10 hours depending on whether or not I did something physical or went out drinking. My wife just needs around 6 to 8. Sometimes she just needs 5. That's crazy!

Re: Day or Night?

To be honest, I can go a few days without sleeping and be completely awake.

I guess it's because of my irregular sleeping patterns.

Re: Day or Night?

I'm definitely a night owl by nature. The perfect bedtime for me is between 3:00-5:00 AM. Having said that, it doesn't normally work out that way, but it's nice when it does.

Re: Day or Night?

By the way... I'm a day person... but not exactly by choice.. I get sleepy by 8 or 10 pm and I get grumpy and frustrated if I don't go to sleep when I should... or I just get a bad headache the next day...

Re: Day or Night?

I got into a bad habit several years ago of going to sleep when I am tired and waking up when I am rested. It sounded like a reasonable logical idea. But it means I usually sleep 7 hours a day and stay up for 18. That adds up to 25 hours which means I am always going to sleep at different times. In the course of a month I will have gone to sleep and woken up at every hour of the day. 4PM and 4AM and every other hour.

Sounded practical at first but it is very impractical and makes it very hard to schedule things with people. But it is very hard to stop doing.

In the poll I picked whenever I roll out of bed is morning.

In general I am much more aware and active before going to bed than after waking up.

Every person and especially every age group needs different amounts of sleep. Teenager you can honestly tell your parents there is evidence that you need 9 hours of sleep every day and that teenager's natural body clock is telling you to get it later at night and sleep in and that the healthy thing to do is reschedule your morning classes for late afternoon. Do the research and find articles to back you up before telling them though.

If you do not dream you will go crazy and eventually die from sleep deprivation. That doesn't mean you have to remember your dreams but you have to have all 4 sleep cycles. Unless you have some kind of health problem your body will make sure this does not happen and force you to sleep and dream.

Sleeping too much is a sign of and a cause of depression.

Working night shift - staying up all night on weekdays and then reversing your schedule to stay up all day on weekends - shortens your life expectancy.

Re: Day or Night?

I'm more of a night person, but I always wake up earlier than 10:00 am.

Highschool has a way of messing with you like that.
I need to sleep 4 to 6 hours, more and I'm too tired, and less I am too tired.
