Re: Music Suggestions

That was horrid Timber Wolf.

Anyways I wanted to say three things.
_________________________________________________
First a few new songs currently wearing out the battery of my iPod:

Hot Toddies: HTML
http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=Zof45sOgVV0

Ting Tings: That's Not My Name
http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=GF5wvycotuo

Ting Tings: Shut Up and Let Me Go
http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=8r23cm7bL9E
_________________________________________________
Next, is it just me or has anyone else noticed the new fad of indie musicians covering modern pop songs? Usually dropping the tempo down alarmingly which causes them to have a bit of a haunted feel. A few examples that I like:

Yael Naim covering Spears' "Toxic":
http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=ETh0Kfxk2BY

Mechanical Bride covering Rhianna's "Umbrella":
http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=YS1AacqCt-o

Obviously neither of these are official artist videos but the sound quality was fair enough.

I know people have been doing this for years but it seems far more prevalent recently. Any thoughts?
_________________________________________________
Okay finally a little rant of mine. I hate that its become so damn fashionable to like bands that no one's ever heard of. This normally wouldn't be a bad thing but its gotten to the point where talent no longer is a factor in it. The more obscure and quirky the band and the fewer people that know of them the better. Now when I go on a music sharing website I have to wade through a slew of garbage that I'd rather have never heard, hoping to find a diamond in the rough. I'm not saying people shouldn't like indie, I just wish more people would like it because they like the actual music and not because they want their high school buddies to think they're cool when they show them their iPod collection.

Its ridiculous to stop liking someone's music because they made an appearance on The Late Show or because they finally got some play on the radio. Friggen' Indie-Prep-Brats need to grow up and not care what others think about their own tastes in music. Maybe if they stopped paying attention to what their friends think and started paying attention to what they're listening to they'd have an iPod with a couple hundred songs they actually like to listen to instead of one with 5,000 songs, some they can't stand more than a few seconds of but are cool because of how obscure they are.

Re: Music Suggestions

I used to like rooney and modest mouse and a bunch of other indie bands, but I started to listen to my dad's springsteen stuff, and I developed a liking for REM myself. It pays off to be yourself. I dont care if my buddies tell me im into all the old stuff. Just be yourself, you might end up with bruce's harmonica and clarence's sax strap like I did seriously though. I got both those in cleveland this year. I was leaning on the stage ;P

My thoughts exactly. I remember when I was at Bonnaroo last year, I was walking around and over-heard some band that I had never heard of, and they sounded like they were just banging on a keyboard. And there were tons of people watching them, and I had to ask myself why...

It's like no one even listens to the music anymore.

Re: Music Suggestions

lol that depends on your interpretation of music, I'm not going to get into that to much here though, out of fear of starting a fight or trashing and friends i have on here...
As ashamed as i am to admit it.... I thought Raiden II's soundtrack was amazing , and i found it on youtube, so here it is(level 2/8 is my favorite)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ze4R1dlgKPY
Here's some good Metallica stuff Live
Am I Evil(cover)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HAZYkuOMtSQ
This is just some cool stuff, James and Lars with a Drum Battle, Lars start's the crowd swearing at him. it's pretty funny and it's got a REALLY awesome Guitar part after the Drum Battle and Lars fitting in as much swearing as he can, The guitar is the 2nd part, but the 1st PArt makes it funnier and fits in
Part I: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PxSOs...eature=related
Part II: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DwKgD...eature=related

This is Fade to Black (MY personal Favorite song from them) done in '91, the tour before James got lit up by their pyrothecnics on this same song, just under a year later.

song: Quartet in C minor, No. 8
composer: Dmitri Shostakovich

Re: Music Suggestions

lol well, to go along with the classical theme
I heard this on a tribute video, and found the name of it Lux Aeterna
and a favorite of mine O Fortuna, lol this is a really depressing thing ".....Hateful life,First oppresses, And then soothes, As fancy takes it....", but of course its not in English and it actually rhymes!
