Broomfield man rescued from Rock Creek during September floods could sue his rescuers - Broomfield Enterprise

Roy Ortiz was rescued by North Metro Fire Rescue District and others who responded to the scene after his car was washed off the road on Sept. 12. He says crews took too long to respond to the accident after he became trapped in his upside-down car

In the document, Ferszt stated Ortiz survived “by pure grace.”

God saved his life but apparently couldn't be bothered to keep him from flipping upside down into flood waters. Time to sue the first responders for not rescuing him fast enough, I guess god couldn't make them move any faster? Can't sue god so gotta sue someone.

BBC News - Philippine top court defies church to back birth control

The Supreme Court in the Philippines has approved a birth control law, in a defeat for the Catholic Church.
The law requires government health centres to distribute free condoms and contraceptive pills.

It says the law will help the poor, who often cannot afford birth control, and combat the country's high rates of maternal mortality.
The provisions will make virtually all forms of contraception freely available at public health clinics.
Sex education will also be compulsory in schools and public health workers will be required to receive family planning training.
There will also be medical care for women who have had illegal abortions.

So after years of battling the Catholic church the courts decided that the health of women is more important than abiding by an interpretation of the bible. Apparently the Catholic church didn't care about all the mothers dying in childbirth, unwanted children being neglected or abandoned or the grinding poverty related to it. They're so compassionate and truly doing gods work huh?

Let's not forget the corporate involvement in the poverty you mentioned; I saw a documentary on one of the running shoe companies' factories in a poor country like the Philippines, and it was shanty towns with open sewers for the workers with curable diseases running rampant due to lack of money.

Conditions inside the factories are sub - Human.
Double shifts, no breaks, not even sitting down for a moment to rest your feet after 18 hours working, and you better get each item done within the calculated time frame {literally to the second} or else ..
This is what we indirectly support whenever we buy those shoes, and I imagine many of the other companies are just as bad.

The real hypocrisy is that these corporations decry when the government regulates them, but if the government didn't regulate everyone else, they'd lose much of their excessive profits.

Of course, some fault in these situations of poverty lies with whomever acts irresponsibly and has children whom they can't afford.

Not everyone is as honest as they claim to be.

A lot of the time poor countries are obligated to allow foreign investors to build factories with poor conditions which begins {or worsens} the cycle of poverty we're talking about, and that process seems to begin with a loan from the World Bank.

Of course, some fault in these situations of poverty lies with whomever acts irresponsibly and has children whom they can't afford.

I used to think so myself, but after reading about this same situation in so called 3rd world countries I now believe people living in those conditions have so many children so that some may survive.
Everyone who can work brings money to the household and when the parents get too old to work themselves, at least they have some children take care of them.

I realize that people intentionally have several children because some may not survive, and that's unfortunate, but I mainly referred to which persons unintentionally have children, because they can stop themselves if they really wanted to. However, religious opposition to proper health care for all is truly unfounded.

Religion plays a role but on the same coin religion also teaches abstinence in the first place.

I think the biggest factors are cultural ignorance and peer pressure.

All that aside, religion isn't always the big, bad villain in every social issue.

The only people who are likely to forego contraception because of their religion are the same crazies that forego premarital sex because of their religion.

a Long Island prankster called police over Skype Tuesday and told them he was Rafael Castillo, a 17-year-old from Long Beach, NY. He reportedly informed the authorities that he had "just killed my mother and I might shoot more people," also giving police Castillo's address.Long Island police then dispatched helicopters and other emergency vehicles to the scene. In total, more than 60 officers were on site, including "elite members" of a special operations unit

When police arrived at the home, Castillo's mother was in the kitchen, unscratched. The authorities then attempted for 20 minutes to get Castillo to come out of his room, but he apparently had headphones on and could not hear what was going on.

This should be punished severely. Also those must've been some awesome headphones.

People who cause problems to other people should pay the victims and the government because of what resources they waste. This should apply not only to this stupidity but anyone who misuses public resources, and to any other such problems like pollution. Selfish, greedy troublemakers should pay much that what everyone else does.

They should prosecute him and make him pay back the costs then smash his xbox in front of him and ban him from playing online games. I think calling in a swat team over COD is justification enough for that.
