I've never heard of that. I've never been to Hawaii though. I can personally attest that NY, MA, FL, NC, PA, VT, and CT allow it.

Cool! I will have to check that out if I ever find time for a vacation again.
Of course this now makes me sound like an alcoholic but truth is I just like to have a few drinks when on vacation and it's nice not to have pay extra for them.

True enough. Also since they are Foster kids, we aren't allowed to have liquor in the house. It can be triggering for many of them with the situations they have come from.

"triggering" holy shit Elrod do you have to use that word? That word means nothing nowadays, God, "the bus driver looked at me as I was getting on to the bus..." is "triggering" don't classify these kids in with that shit man.

Not my terminology. It is official from all the training we had to take to become Foster Parents in the first place.
A lot of these kids associate alcohol with some of the worst times of their life so I get why they don't want it in your house when you are a Foster Parent.

It's actually quite old. People use it a lot more now but from what I've seen they're not using it incorrectly. If some event causes them to have a strong reaction then they were triggered by it.

Re: Official Canada appreciation thread
In Western Canada there is a Province called Alberta, sandwiched in between British Columbia {West coast} and Saskatchewan {prairies}.
Alberta was an Oil Industry province for many years and because of this, people living there were almost guaranteed employment and were able to make a decent living.
Recently that all changed as a slowdown in oil and related industries hit.
So Albertans began to suffer economic hardships, but now the Town of Fort McMurray, located in the North East of Alberta, has been almost completely wiped out by wildfires burning in that area.
Canada evacuating 8,000 wildfire evacuees by air
Fort McMurray is {was} called an 'Oil Town', implying that the Oil Industry was the primary employing power and drove the local economy.
I went to the grocery store yesterday and they are collecting emergency donations for the people there, but it bothers me because the Oil Industry brags about profits in the Billions every year - so why are they not taking care of these people now?
Vroom vroom, way to go Auto and Oil Industries.

Re: Official Canada appreciation thread
It's crazy. My wife's sister was living there with her daughter and the daughters father. (there are broken up now, but living together for... some reason)
The father had a trucking company that hauled oil, and it's just gone. All his trucks are gone, his office, every ounce of it has been reduced to ash. And this fire is BIG! 85,000 hectares, that's like an 7-8 hour highway drive.
I'm pretty sure I would have shit my pants if this was me:
Oh! Worth noting, West Jet is offering free flights to those in need, Air Canada tripled their prices. I just flew with Air Canada last weekend -never again.

Re: Official Canada appreciation thread
I've been following the story on Reddit. Pretty fucking crazy, it seriously looks like Hell. So is the entire city going to be burnt down? How can the city recover from something like this?
Shout outs to the driver of the white van, using their blinkers even when it's raining fire, they also stopped to let a deer pass.

I've been close to such a fire once, close enough even though it was many kilometers away from our position {we were in the Okanagan, the fire raged across the border in Washington State} ; my older daughter said it was 'cool' that in the middle of the day the sun was a dark red circle in the sky, and smoke and ashes filled the air .. I told her I hoped she would never see such a thing again, since it's like looking at the end of the world.

Air Canada isn't one of the better airlines on a good day.
Thanks for sharing the info about West Jet free flights.

I think if the Town gets rebuilt it will take years - most of the pictures I've seen show not many buildings left standing.
It looks like someone bombed the entire area.
I'm guessing only buildings made of brick or cement, perhaps some steel buildings remain.

Re: Official Canada appreciation thread
It's largely been a place people go to make a quick buck. Want lots of cash, head up to fort mac oil rigs for literally an 8 week contract and you can come back with 30k. Is it recommended? No, it's the only appeal of the city to most as it is very far north and typically dangerous place to work, this aside.
Just summarizing what the city normally represents. Obviously this sucks to see anywho. What bothered me was seeing Alberta NDP members, 2 of them tweeting out about how this was "karma" or "mother nature fighting back". Just awful, and this is the political party currently representing the province. I don't care where your stance on environmentalism or politics are. You don't say something like that amidst tragedy. Especially when you represent these people governmentally.
