For the love of God, this madness has to end. Cheatah/Aaron, you need to just accept the consequences and move on.

Re: Internet Gaming Bash of the Year

I just wanted to prove that I was a good gamer to everyone basically and thought that if I submitted my inps that I had, that everyone might notice. So basically I cheated and used my old inps that i had. I did think that by the way that Andrew was telling me that I could just submit my inps that I had for the tournament that it was ok. But I was very wrong and mistaken about this. And I really truly apologize for this. I shouldn't have done this at all. I will fully accept the consequences for not being able to participate in tournaments unless I get a message from someone who wants me to join from now on. I will make sure to always stream all my games so everyone can watch from now on so everyone can watch me so everyone will know from now on that the scores will be all legitimate or I'll continue to play the games on Retro so everyone knows the games are all done properly as well. So I would like to apologize to everyone on Retro and to everyone on the DKF Forum as well. I guess I just wanted to be noticed and paid attention to and then I let everything just get to me and I tried taking advantage which I totally didn't. Anyways I just want to apologize. This is the truth!

It's seems obvious you have an overwhelming desire to be validated, and accepted by the communities that you participate in. Probably more than anyone else I have ever seen given what you are willing to do in order to get this acceptance, and validation.

I have no clue why that is, but you will need to do some soul searching to figure that one out.

What you need to know is you are an accomplished player. Your Donkey Kong high score is validation enough in my opinion. I put over 620 hours into that game, and don't have a score as high as yours. Major props for that.

So what that means is you don't need to create false accounts or any other type of thing in order to gain acceptance from the community at large. This community would have been happy with a 200k score played during tournament time.

Steve Sanders did gain forgiveness, but it took time. It wasn't overnight. But overall through his actions was accepted in the community at large. You need to have patience with these things. Communities are sort of like cats. The more you follow the cat around trying to get it to like you, the more it wants nothing to do with you. So sit back, and let the cat come to you.

Take my advice or don't, it's up to you.

This was a good read, but I really think Dudebro is right about getting back on track. We all make mistakes, some people try to cover them up, but eh just enjoy the tournament no need to carry it on for longer.

I definitely suggested as a maze-y option it but it was an overwhelming RU choice due to it being in another RU tournament... it's so much fun, isn't it!!! So bloody addictive. Even with that awful music.

And I haven't had actual dreams about a game since Tetris on the Gameboy...

Incidentally, CaptainJivePants, I absolutely love your playing name...it's such a pleasure to scroll down the Epigroove highscore list and read the names... James White, Matt Waters, Fred DeHart...CaptainJivePants

Re: Internet Gaming Bash of the Year

Thanks to all for including us in the tournament (and to Teter/CaptainJivePants from our team for roping us into this). The regular gamers at GGA have had the tourney bug recently w/ BOTA in the spring, FunSpot in May and a few side tourneys in between. I'm especially psyched people are playing Sonic Wings. I think it's one of the hardest titles we have at Galloping Ghost Arcade. I'm really impressive a couple of guys from other teams have already looped it! Cheers to everyone and looking forward to great scores.

I'm having a blast so far. And I am liking Nitro Ball. But now that someone has put up a score using the exploit, are we going to nix that score? Or are we all going to scramble to pull off the exploit and subsequently all tie for first with 99,9999,990?

Re: Internet Gaming Bash of the Year

The RU team have been discussing this for two days now. I felt that it wasn't just their decision to make and should be discussed openly with everyone playing. That seemed to have fallen on deaf ears. Thank you for bringing the topic up.

---------- Post added at 03:17 PM ---------- Previous post was at 03:10 PM ----------

I'd like to move that private conversation to the public section so that all points that have been discussed do not need to be reiterated a second time. That would allow us to hopefully come to a quick and fair decision that most of us can agree with.

I'll do so tonight if there are no objections by anyone on my team.

Re: Internet Gaming Bash of the Year

I feel like it cheapens it by a bit and shouldn't be included, yes it is part of the game, but it's like saying that beating Contra with the thirty lives cheat, which was intentionally put in there, takes the same level of skill as beating it on the base level, though I admittedly don't know exactly how difficult the exploit is to pull off, score exploits in games in general cheapen the experience and nullifies competition to some point because it becomes about how many people can pull off the exploit and get the maximum score.

If no agreement can be made, Maybe you should choose a new game and add an extra week to the tourney. Just an idea.

I think Wolf should contact the other teams, maybe have a person from each team be the ambassador from said team, and hash out the Nitro Ball problem.

It's Bump n Jump on RU. Same game, different name. Bump 'n' Jump - Arcade/Coin-Op

On Bubbles, after you start the game it will be a bunch of funky colors and then go into a test mode. When it's done, hit F4 and then enter. Wait a bit again and the game will start. I usually use the fast forward button (End) to fast forward through the waiting.

Regarding Nitro Ball. I've haven't taken the time to look at the method used but I'm having hard time understanding how it can't be considered leaching/farming. If it is then the solution is to simply ban the method and since the tournament is based on honesty, just trust that no one is using the method. If it isn't leaching, IMO there really isn't an argument until more than one person max's the score. Currently, it at least appears that maxing the score takes some superb skills that no one else has shown the ability to do yet so currently, the best player has the best score. If one or more people also max the score, then there can be a discussion. Is the method so easy that by the end of the tournament 5 players from each team will have maxed the score? If 5 people from DKF can max the score but only 3 from RU, why would they want the game removed? At the end of the day, the tournament is for fun. I say let the game stay and deal with it. It's not like there isn't enough other games to play after you've maxed out Nitro Ball.

---------- Post added at 02:48 PM ---------- Previous post was at 02:40 PM ----------

Also, no one else has said anything. I think the best course of action is to have a couple of our players (I'd volunteer but I'm afraid I'm not good enough to get r done) max out the score and see if any of the other sites have anything to say.

There is no possible way to get 99 million without this method. This method is very easy to reproduce.

Re: Internet Gaming Bash of the Year

I don't see why it's even a discussion really. If it's an easy exploit that can max out a score and there's no way to watch recordings to be sure just remove the game for something else. It sucks to do now but it's better than waiting for it to cause hard feelings between teams later.

NO backbone!!!
I'm in an awkward position. I didn't want to press the issue or be the one to bring it up because I'm an Admin. I didn't want it to appear like I was throwing my weight around or forcing a decision for the team.

I have no qualms about doing so where the site is concerned but this is not an RU contest. This is a Wolf contest. Fortunately for me (unfortunately for Wolf), Wolf works for RU. It should be Wolf's decision, not mine but if I pressed my point it would probably influence him. Wolf's always had a hard time saying no to me (sexual innuendo intentional.)
