Bubsy In Claws Encounters Of The Furred Kind

In the nineties, Sonic was successful, and everybody wanted a mascot with a 'tude, 7up even wanted one with cool spot.
Though Aero the Acrobat, Awesome Possum, and most other attempts (aside from Earthworm Jim and Donkey Kongs revival) were pathetic, Bubsy is the worst attempt at a mascot ever. This games average won't be as bad as it deserves, but that's because fun factor isn't in the review system here, so, oh well.

Graphics
Holy crap, the developers did something right with the game. Though Bubsy's graphics may be boring and unimaginative, they do look pretty good by Genesis standards. Bubsy is pretty well rendered, but after you look at the game, it all goes down-hill.

Sound
Once you hear Bubsy you know he sucks, with his annoying scratchy voice and his repetitive music. The game's sound makes you cringe, literally. The music is nice... for thirty (explicative) seconds! After that you may actually throw your controller through the TV. Now, since I can't play a game with NO music, I got past this. I turned the volume off and put in my rap mix CD (mostly music by Afroman and Eminem) and began to play, sadly, the gameplay holds up no better.

Gameplay
Bubsy controls like a shopping cart with greased wheels, with controls so slippery you will think the developers wanted to make a bad game. Sonic went fast but was easy to control because he stayed at a nice pace and you were able to slow down. Apparently the developers didn't want to let you slow down and have Bubsy slip and slide all over the place in this game. The level design is also dreadful, making for what is literally a painful experience.

Replay value
The game doesn't even have any value whatsoever, let alone replay value. You will destroy the game before you beat it.

Challenge
I lowered the game's challenge score because, if you could handle the horrid controls, it isn't that hard of a game. You will be challenged, but it's due to broken gameplay. The game gets a 3/5 for challenge, but factoring in the bad controls, will feel like a 5/5 challenge.
