It's not any one thing it's a package deal. I think the creators wanted to make his non He Man form as feminine as possible to make his He Man form seem more manly. That's the only way I can explain this-
Of course having him change into a almost nude guy with a weird strap thing on his chest isn't much of an improvement if you ask me. I was a kid when I watched the show though so it didn't matter.
