AD&D and D20 and tabletop RPG

[ame="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/D20_system"]d20 System - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia[/ame] is like Dungeons & Dragons just a different brand with slightly different rules.

Role-playing game (pen and paper)

I don't have much to say, I just started this to see if anyone else had anything to add.

When I was a kid I wanted to play AD&D so bad. I lived in a small town and could only find one other person that was interested. We couldn't afford the books and never figured out how to play. Plus my grandparents were dead set on it being of the devil and wouldn't allow me to look at it when they took me to bookstores. I did eventually get [ame="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HeroQuest"]HeroQuest[/ame] and it was ok but I somehow lost it after a couple months.

Last year I played D20 Conan for about 5 3 hour sessions. It was a blast. I don't really like the role playing or dialog but I love the stats and strategy. The DM was awesome in my inexperienced opinion.

I have thought about going to the local game store and playing with random strangers but for some reason it seems intimidating ( I would be starting in the middle with rules that I don't know and people I don't know ) and way too nerdy ( who actually does that ). Any of you ever done that?

I have been playing [ame="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hero_Scape"]Heroscape - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia[/ame] (got it at a thrift store for $3) with some friends but it isn't the same.

And while I'm thinking about it, has anyone ever play Hero Quest » Every Video Game ? Is it any good?
