Bribery for promotions?

So, I was talking to my manager today, and we had a customer talking about people getting promotions for doing a "favor" for someone. May it be dating or whatever. Do you guys think it's so common now that people don't give a damn about it? I mean I find it wrong, making love or whatever should be done for feelings you have for them, not for some promotion. I really hate that i heard that, I heard it at my Movie Theater job and disliked it then. why can't you work yourself to get up to that level instead of showing your goods to someone? Anyways, I just wanted to post this since it was fresh on my mind and I wanted to start posting my opinions on issues here, since I feel I need to start bulking up my posts with something that means to me.
