Me personally, I don't buy used games. I just wait for the inevitable price drop and or/ GOTY editions where I can get most or all of the DLC and the game for $30-$40
"My mind is my weapon. My brother has his sword, King Robert has his warhammer and I have my mind... and a mind needs books as a sword needs a whetstone if it is to keep its edge. That’s why I read so much, Jon Snow."
Personally, I make sure to actually purchase a game if it's a really good game with a lot of effort behind it... Then again, I did buy Deus Ex HR for 90 cents, but I bought it officially, so Eidos got 60% of that 90 cents...(onlive lol)
Even if the numbers are true that's still 36 million people buying new. The problem is the companies just want more and more profit and they won't be satisfied until they get 100% of the people buying new, which will never happen. So now they're doing everything they can to screw customers to force them to buy new, like codes to unlock parts of the game if you buy new and breaking up content for DLC. It's like they don't care about the obvious backlash this will cause.
Btw I'm sick of people acting like sharing games with friends and family is bad like piracy. Imo the gaming industry only became so popular because of that. Rentals and used sales help too of course.
A long time ago, in a galaxy far far away (only joking!),
But it's true - I was there, I tell you!
Me, and Max, the 10 000 year old mouse!

Whooo boy, was that a fun unit or what?
I loved my modded PS1 and was so sad when it died.
I had games for it that I never saw anywhere else or for any other system.
ON TOPIC:
I only bought new games if they were really something special, then I realized I could buy way more if I just waited for the price to go down.
Imagine if any other idustry said you can not lend, resell or rent a product you purchased.
If you bought a shirt but couldn't let your friend wear it and couldn't give it to a younger sibling once you outgrew it and couldn't give it to a thrift store or charity or yard sale once you were done with it. Or you couldn't rent a tuxedo.
Or if Ford said, you can not buy/sell used cars or rent cars.
No way anyone would ever even consider accepting that in a different industry.
I've brought that up before and you should hear the ways people fall all over themselves to defend the gaming industry as somehow different. It usually ends with these same people mocking people for supposedly being poor, because that's why we object to additional costs.
When it comes to piracy and duplicate copies, yes it is different than a truck. But when it comes to borrowing, renting, lending, reselling, giving away a single legit copy, it is the exact same thing as a truck, or anything else.
As a musician, I have a slightly different perspective than some. The music industry is dying today largely because of piracy, so I sort of take this personally.
I don't pirate things as a general rule, but I don't see anything wrong with giving something to a friend to borrow or buying something used. I would have a problem with someone illegally copying a game to give to someone, as that would hurt the industry in my mind (unless it's something out of print like classic games, or albums that can not be purchased/rented via legal means).
To borrow Kong's analogy, I would see copying a current title for someone breaking into a T-shirt factory to steal a shirt off the assembly line. Letting your friend borrow or use it is one thing, but giving them a permanent stolen shirt would be a problem for me.
Having said that, I normally buy used games unless I really want a pre-order bonus.
I don't think that piracy in games is nearly as bad as it is in music. In music, I think people pirate the stuff that they really want, (a particular genre for example). I think games have a broader appeal and people will pirate stuff that they wouldnt pay for otherwise, and then buy the stuff they really want. I hope that makes sense cause I'm too lazy to retype it right now.
The problem with both industries is they're becoming so expensive and less customer friendly. With music they want you to buy their whole overpriced album with only one or two songs to judge it and with games it's the same but with short trailers and MAYBE a demo. The worse the companies get the more it drives people to piracy.
With music they want you to buy their whole overpriced album with only one or two songs to judge it
I would like to add that many albums only have maybe 2 or 3 songs you'd be interested in at all, the rest is like filler.
Those extra tracks act like 'Music Helper', if you take my meaning.
No offense to you, WB, or to any other musician.
Obviously people try their best to make enjoyable music and it is only fair they get paid for their hard work.
{Also, they can't all be roses.}
On the other hand, the fans have to fork over their hard earned money to buy the CD's or download the tunes and sometimes it seems like you're not getting much bang for the buck.
I know it's the greedy recording industry and the insane competition surrounding it that makes it this way.
To my knowledge, most PS2 games are out of print, so it isn't really possible for me to buy new PS2 games. So yeah, screw the developer's opinions, I can buy used games if I want. Actually, there is no option for PS2 games, which is what I play most.

But, I legitimately am poor. As in well below middle-class poor. So yeah, I'll go with used games on dead consoles.
