Top Ten Failed Video Game Mascots

When one thinks of Nintendo, that old plumber Mario springs to mind. Sega has Sonic, Square-Enix has the Chocobo, and even Atlus has Jack Frost. Most gaming mascots are icons in their own right, and many rival the name recognition of the company itself. Sadly, for every successful gaming mascot, there is a pile of grizzled, abandoned ideas lying in a pit of failure and obscurity. Perhaps these lonely mascots hang out in a South Park-style Island of Misfit Mascots, just waiting for a second chance.

I have the Bubsy game for my snes... my mom bought it at a garage sale. Never finished it... never really understood the thing with the balls of yarn... and it really annoyed me... I had no idea it was supposed to be a mascot...

I guessed Bubsy, Gex, and Alex Kidd before I looked at the list, and lo and behold they're there.

I did not expect Glover though........I didn't even know there was another game besides the N64 one. That game was awesome =).

What makes a video game character a "mascot" as opposed to normal video game character?

Now that I think about it why isn't Bonk on that list? He seemed pretty 'mascot-y' for the TG-16, but then vanished pretty quickly after Genesis/SNES came about.

Bonk wasn't a failed mascot, his system just failed. As a mascot he did very well.
