I'm gonna start looking for a new server but I'd like some feedback so I don't waste my time with undesirables. Also if anyone else wants to look at servers be my guest. I'll gladly hop on when I have time and give them a look.
So far the only suggestion is grief protection and some grass to build on. Let's brainstorm other stuff we want. I'll go first.
1. A small-medium population of cool people.
2. As up to date as possible.
3. Mods like Magic Farm2 or something else with lots of content. Chocobos would be fun again, I miss them.
4. No creative mode, no ridiculous mods that make it feel like creative, no donor bonuses that give advantages, no PvP focus.
Jadedcat's Magic Farm 2 is a modpack, and requires the Feed The Beast launcher.
I imagine there may be servers offering it but do not know for certain.
This would be nice, actually, but if you really want Chocobos then maybe you should look for a Hexxit server on the Tekkit launcher?
Frankly Mykeh's Drahexxy pack is better due to the addition of Optifine in the pack which automatically increases performance even on crappy PC's like mine.
Ya I know why even bring it up knowing we're not going to find any server running it - I'm just dreaming here.
@JG- I'm open to any mod launcher that is popular and trustworthy. I'm seeing mainly FTB when I check though and I have it installed still so I'd lean towards that if I had the choice.
@Tenser- I'm down for a big project but the unending part has me stumped. What could we possibly do that would have endless replay? For me I could get months out of building a town with npcs but I know that isn't gonna work for you and some others.
I wanted to make a big project and keep it a secret until it's done but now that the server is gone I might as well spill it. I was gonna dig a giant crater like depression in the ground that went all the way to bedrock. The goal was to populate it and make it kind of like a hanging garden with lots of stuff going on with a nature(lots of trees,water,flowers,ect) theme. I mainly thought of it because I haven't seen anyone else doing it and I'd like to see an NPC village that isn't just flat or on broken flatish ground. Anyone interested in something like that for a project?
If you had any projects in mind post them it might help when deciding what kind of server to play on.
You really love those gardens, so do I; that whole Cherry Blossom/ Sakura forest we chopped down over toward Twin Caves, then replanted with Larch and ? lol.
Sure turned out nice though and the butterflies that appeared were a very nice touch.
Midway was on its way to becoming a large collection of towers, with some connected to each other and the whole thing was going to be like a custom town of sorts made mostly of the Volcano biome stone set.
I liked the way Cave Town looked at the end, and the connecting roads really made it come alive.
So if that's the type of community project/ build we're talking about where different structures and locations are getting linked together, the making of our own towns and such, I think it would be fun.
Feed The Beast is great, so is Tekkit, I'm happy with either myself.
I may be down. I mostly have just been playing single player on rare occasion. Not sure I'll play a lot. I should have more of a group mentality online as I never really have in the past.
@JG- I had lots of plans for Cavetown I was slowly collecting a ton of flowers to plant all over the place and I was in the process of making "cave" housing under the main part of town. My goal was to connect all the houses and make it like one big house, kinda like an ant hill.
@Fomar- I don't think any of us mind as long as the server is cool and will stick around for a while. Did you have anything specific in mind?
@Cam- My goal is to find a place that we can come and go from as we please without jeopardizing the stability of the server so you being uber casual about it wouldn't be a problem. Come as you are and make yourself at home.
@Server search progress- I've seen a few I thought looked promising but I'm not sure what everyone will be ok with. For example does anyone have a problem with that mod Towny? Anyone use it before? That seems to come up a lot.
Also I assume we don't want any kind of role play focus right?
i haven't seen anything yet, but i'm waiting on reply from 2 servers that looking like they could be good,
as far as towny goes i have a little experience with it as i've played a few servers with it, and last i recall i think its a form of land protection, i remember not liking it as much as the greif provention plugin but i don't recall why.
SJB and I tried this server last night and it seems pretty cool. No one was on when we tried but I checked a couple times today and I saw 3-4 people so it's not dead. The owner seems to be investing a lot of time and money into it so there's that too. I'm adding a screenshot to show our position, it's so much easier. We're on the 1.8.1 survival server that isn't peaceful or their old world. You'll see it in the hub.
I plan on finding a couple servers to frequent so I'm not putting all my eggs in one basket. I hate losing everything, at least with multiples I can have something to fall back on. I'm not in a hurry I just wanted to post it asap in case anyone was interested now.

So no interest in the server I posted? It's not pure vanilla, I wanna be clear about that. Also the map I'm on is new as of a few days ago and it looks like SJB are possibly alone atm. I haven't gone back near spawned and looked though.
Found a village with a ravine right next to it. Like RIGHT next to it. I thought I took several screenshots but I guess it didn't work. I'll post the only screenshot that did work, a ravine that cuts into extreme hills, it's nearby. Lots of ravine in this biome for some reason. Is that normal for birch forests?

That would be mine. My first MC house actually made out of wood and not built into a hill or into the ground.
I don't intend on returning until I have some colorful wool. Feel free to crash there if you're exploring that area.
I was asking about your house because being that close to a village it will cause it to be attacked by zombies. I think I saved three of the npcs though so not a big deal really.
Once you have opened the map webpage, on the right hand side there is a small tab.
Hover over the tab with your cursor to open the map menu; scroll down the menu to 'World 8'.
It confused the hell out of me until I figured out you need to scroll down that map list or you won't see the world we're all playing on.
Here's a screenshot of the northen most town in our nearly straight line of npc towns. DN and I secured it last night and he was derping around fixing it up when I left. It's actually the best of the three I think, it's a shame I didn't see it before I started on mine. Besides being large the town also has nice views all around it.
So I'm still playing on this server. Anyone wanna join? JG, SJB, DN and Katz have logged on but besides JG no ones been on much. I haven't either really but it's because I don't like playing alone. There's other people on the server but usually they play on other worlds(why do people play on peaceful so much?).
Stable server, multiple worlds, low population, almost exclusively RU people on my world, relatively untouched biomes on newer worlds and the owner said he's not worried about donations really so the server will be up a long while even if the population stays low. The only issues so far are the low population and the nether. Their original world is called Old Terra and it has a nether. None of the other worlds do, yet. I sent a message to the owner about enabling it for world 8 but I haven't got a reply yet(he hasn't been on minecraft.net to check it).
So are you guys getting your MC fix somewhere else? If so tell me where and I'll check it out. I'm not attached to this server for any big reasons, it's just the best one I've found so far.
Also a picture of a villager meeting. They always seem to pick the smallest houses.
Well I've been on the server a few times lately but am still feeling uninspired and so just placed a couple of blocks then sign out.
Maybe I'm mod - spoiled, and even though there is some new content in Vanilla, it still doesn't measure up to what the modpacks have to offer, in my opinion.
So, 1.8.3 .. does your minecraft seem different lately?

When I first noticed my skin was changed, I was like:
I'm worried the server might close due to lack of activity so by all means find a mod server for us to play on. I can't get into the current server with none of you on it anyways.
