Mlb
I didnt see a MLB topic so I decided to make one. Playoffs started today. Biggest news: Roy Halladay pitches No-Hitter against Reds in his first playoff start. That guy is really something.
Phillies vs Reds (1-0)
Giants vs Braves (0-0)
Yankees vs Twins (0-0)
Rays vs Rangers (0-1)
Im dissapointed in the Yankees performance so far. I was pretty disgusted so I turned off the TV >_>
Anyway, discuss anything about baseball here (Just dont blast me for liking the Yankees :P)
---------- Post added at 11:17 PM ---------- Previous post was at 10:36 PM ----------
So, I turned on the TV, and the Yankees are tied 4-4 somehow. Then Teixiera got a 2-run homer and made it 6-4. Not sure how but Ill take it.

Re: Mlb
I don't care about baseball, but I hate the Twins. For no reason other than the game tonight made it impossible for me to buy a sandwich from Jimmy John's because of all the people.
I hope they lose soon so downtown isn't so freaking crowded.

Re: Mlb
I was pumped to see we won. I fell asleep during the bottom of the eight, found out we won that morning. Halladay is god-like o.o Don Larsen is better though Perfect Game AND it was in the World Series. No pressure there

I agree, no one will ever have a game as epic as Larsen did.

Re: Mlb
That was an incredible performance by Roy Halladay. It is not an exaggeration to say that we just witnessed one of the greatest pitching performances in the HISTORY of MLB. Even without that performance, the Phillies are scary good.
Of course, all my attention is on the my team, the San Francisco Giants (note the new playoff avatar). We have a pitching staff that put up historical numbers of their own in September, I'm just hoping they continue that into October. Tonight's game Lincecum v. Lowe is an absolute must win. Go Giants!

Re: Mlb
Sorry to say Tanc, but I think even if the Giants salvage this round, they will lose to whoever wins the Phillies-Reds round. I dont see them winning the WS this year.

I agree, Chris. The Giants are going to have a very hard time winning the World Series. They would need to get past the Phillies and then beat the Yankees or Rangers. Right now though, I'm just worried about beating the Braves.

I think they have a good chance of beating the Braves. The Braves have been struggling of late, I think they will have trouble against the Giants' rotation.

Re: Mlb
I agree with ChrisP, the Giants have a great rotation, that will help them out in the long run.
And it looks like the Yankees are winning 2-1!

The Giants may have a great rotation, but i suspect Barry Zito's career is over since he's not on the playoffs roster

Re: Mlb
The Yankees have been having some issues with pitching of lately, but our offense has been deadly the whole year as it should be.
---------- Post added at 07:58 PM ---------- Previous post was at 07:57 PM ----------
So if the Giants get good pitching and decent hitting, they might be able to pull through and beat the Braves. As for the Braves, I dont think they're such a great team overall. Phillies/Reds is gonna be a big challenge for whoever wins Giants-Braves.

I think it is a gross exaggeration to say that. The Reds are not a good team. They won their division because their division blows and the Cardinals had a down year. Against teams that were .500 or better, they were 24-51. Pathetic.
I believe that Halladay's performance was at best the 3rd best pitching performance of this season, nevermind of all time.
Rangers up 2-0 what I consider to be the most dangerous American League team, Tampa Bay.
Yankees 9 outs away from being up 2-0.

@Jim- I agree. It was an amazing outing, but there was also 3 perfect games this year, not to mention, Halladay threw one of them.

I totally disagree, Jim. The Cincinatti Reds ranked in the top 5 in all of baseball in team BA, HR's and Hits. Regardless of record, Halladay shut down a high powered offense.
Aside from that, I should've been more clear. I believe we just witnessed one of the greatest pitching performances in Postseason history. Halladay pitched only the 2nd no-hitter in the history of postseason baseball. How is that not historic? Hell, he missed a perfect game by one batter.
Truthfully, I don't even care about debating that. I'm happy to see the Giants eke out a win despite Lincecums 14 strikeouts. If the Giants hadn't been the beneficiary of a blown call, who knows what would've happened. Sadly, their offense just doesn't cut it.

Re: Mlb
Speking of Roy Halladay, he received a call from Don Larsen congratulating him on being the 2nd pitcher to throw a no hitter in the post season. Larsen being the first of course
*edits*
It's also been 54 years since Larsen threw it

Re: Mlb
I was very happy to hear that Larsen called up Halladay. Halladay deserved it and I'm sure he was extremely honored that Larsen would call him. It's great to see things like that
