When I was a young lad in elementary school, I had a lot of friends who were into "retro" games -- well, considering that's all that was out at the time (Playstation and 64 were still new, to give you an idea); and so the concept of someone saying that modern games are so much better than games of yesteryear had yet to touch my virgin ears. When I got older, though, and as further generations came out, the same friends got progressively douchier in their opinions, and with it, came a dislike -- maybe even fear -- of retro games.

So for a while, outside of the rare friend or two I have still that is into them, I've been having to deal with PS3 / 4, 360 / One, PC master racers and it's pretty tiring. But my point here is -- and yeah, the site is called RetroUprising -- this site's never really been like that. There's a very homey feel to it, and competing for high scores here reminds me of going to the arcade or a friend's house and trying to beat their scores, then talking trash until they tell me to get out of their house and I never see them again.

But to keep in line with the topic of the... topic, how many of you RUsers are more fond of modern games compared to retro games? Friendly environment here, we're all people with opinions.

For the most part I'm more interested in modern games. I mainly like retro games that I grew up playing or wanting to play. I'll find the odd cool one here and there but generally I can't get into unfamiliar retro games.

I'm a big fan of both.

I love the 3DS. I play a lot of Hearthstone, Minecraft, and Japanese porno games on the PC.

As for "retro" games I have a large fondness for the NES, SNES, Coleco, and PS1.

I would have to say i'm mainly about retro games. I have modern and next gen consoles mainly to keep pace with everyone and such. But my heart is fond of my nostalgia so I stick with my Nes and my Master System ( My Baby )!

I find it interesting that most modern games I like are either sequels to existing franchises (Smash Bros., Pokémon) or are designed to have a retro feel (La-Mulana, Shovel Knight). I can't explain why, but most modern games don't draw me in the way retro games do.

As for modern consoles, the latest I have is a 3DS, Wii, and PS2.

I'm most fond of the older games, but to be honest I don't know a lot about newer games outside of the posts made by RU members.
By that measure I can't really say whether or not I like the newer ones.
I'm still in the GC/PS2 era myself.

However, I noticed that a lot of the newer games are returning to the 2D side scrolling format and I think that says something right there about the type of games people like to play.

I like all era's, my main beef with modern games is wasted potential. Overall, they've tried to emulate Hollywood, they should be trying to emulate Warner Brothers. Not enough devs focus on unique style, and not enough consumers embrace it.

I play any game really. In these past two years though I find myself less invested in buying newer games, instead searching for and collecting older ones or import games.

No PS4/XB1. I have a Wii U but it's mainly a HD Wii machine. If only it played Gamecube games as well, it would be the ultimate Nintendo box.

My ancient PC from 2007 prevents me from playing any high end PC games, but that's ok with me, since the smaller games I do play are cheap and probably better.

If only the poor little Gamecube had used regular - size discs then it probably would; most people were too clumsy to handle those tiny discs from what I saw, but at any rate it seems to me like Nintendo wishes the GC never happened.
Which is a further shame since there were so many great games for it, like Eternal Darkness for one.

Same. I love the combination of Blizzard's imagination with the Pixar-like animations, definitely has a great vibe coming from it. I'm also looking forward to Splatoon on the Wii U.

I like all types of games from all generations. Games are just fun in general.
