Last time we added Sega 32X, Atari 5200, Atari 7800 and Atari Lynx.
What should we add this time?
[ame="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Choose_your_own_adventure"] Choose_your_own_adventure[/ame] books - Scanned copies of old game books. These are lots of reading. If you want to fight the dragon turn to page 87. If you want to try running away turn to page 12.
[ame="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Laserdisc_video_game"] Laserdisc_video_game[/ame] - I think I can get these to work online but there may be some unforeseen complications that could make it impossible. These will take some research and trial and error without guarantee of success. They would have to be done one at a time which means it could take a quite while to get them all online. Maybe as slow as only one or two a month. But, man, they would be cool!
Flash emulators as opposed to the Java and ArcadeOX ones we have now. The Flash emulators will not be as good and will not work on Wii, PSP, iphones or similar. It is just god for people who are on computers that have Flash but can not install Java or ArcadeOX. Maybe some school/library computers or some Linux computers.
well the foreign and hack games sounds good. I also would like to see some of those retro handheld electronic games. Those are my choices, but if I have to chose between those two I would go with number 6
so the wii, i-phone ect. support, is not possible at all? or your just not going to work on it soon?
i voted 8, aox is amazing as it is, but the games seem to be messing up with the coin button as of late, also is there a way to store your controls and stuff in a folder other than the temp folder, i like to clean it out quite a bit and i erases my controls and stuff.
Turns out most of that list makes me happy^^
id like Aox to be improved.. id like flash emulaters (for use on the wii and stuf like that^^) Id mostly like to see a way to play nes and simple games on the wii with the controller or something.. but thats probably too complicated a program^^
This is a good question. Either way I'd like to see it improved but it's nice to know what your money is actually going towards.
I voted for foreign/hack games because it seems like the most content and it's interesting. Do you have an estimate of how many of these games we'd see? If it's only like 10 it might be a deal breaker.
I also voted for Flash games and improvements. It's not my favorite system but a lot of people love it.
I have to go with laser disk still. Just because I am wanting to play the laser disk version of Dragons Lair. That's just one of the games tho there are many others as well.

I can't speak for other devices, but I can confirm that I can't play any games on RU on the iPhone. I can post, and everything else works, but no gaming.
Based on the current choices, I vote for Laserdisc games.

the wii, and ds are no go's either, (no flash support on the ds but that might change someday) the wii will play flash games though, ive gotten a few flash games high scores through my wii, thats why ive always been hopeful, ever since kong mention flash emulators for other systems.

They need to use a newer version of Flash. They use Flash Lite 3.1 which is the same as Flash 9. Up until 2 months ago they were at Flash Lite 3.0 which is the same as Flash 7. They need to make it to Flash 10 before they would work. I don't think any of those systems will even play YouTube videos yet. It probably isn't too far away until they get to Flash 10 though. It isn't a technical limit. Adobe just doesn't want to release the code yet.

Will it only be for Arcade games?
What specifically will be improved?
Improve the whole temp file situation.
Add ability to handle DOS games.
Improve installer.
Add support for other sites to use ArcadeOX.
Add ability to run untrusted files from other sites safely. So you could run a file that might have a virus and still be safe. Like a condom for the Internet.
And other similar stuff.
It would be too much work right now but one day add Mac and Linux support.

This would be in ArcadeOX version 3. We are talking about version 2 now.

It would be lots.

If this wins then we would have another vote to see which of these would be first. I probably wouldn't want to start with one of the ones that are still being published, Dragon's Lair, Space Ace.
Astron Belt < Bad
Badlands < Good
Bega's Battle < Bad
Cliff Hanger < Good
Cobra Command < OK
Dragon's Lair < Good
Dragon's Lair 2 < Good
Esh's Aurunmilla < Good
Galaxy Ranger < Bad
GP World < Bad
Interstellar < Bad
M.A.C.H. 3 < Bad
Road Blaster < Good
Space Ace < Good
Star Blazer < Bad
Super Don Quix-ote < Good
Thayer's Quest < Good
Us vs Them < Bad
So the first Laser Disk game would be one of these
Badlands
Cliff Hanger
Esh's Aurunmilla
Road Blaster
Super Don Quix-ote
Thayer's Quest
After a couple of those we would move to the more popular Space Ace and Dragon's Lair.

I voted Improve ArcadeOX because that is what I work on in my spare time anyways and Old Radio Shows because they would be easy and as a kid I liked them as much as video games. I think more people should be exposed to them. It is sad that the medium is nearly completely dead now.

I enjoy those too. Theatre Of The Mind, Dragnet, The Shadow, and Dick Tracy were always cool to listen to. My dad was really big into those. They were a lot of fun.
well, i have never heard any of the old radio shows, but i want to, so i put my vote for that.
and also, i especially like hacked versions of well-known games, like Super mario world and Super Metroid, so theres another vote for that
Yeah I changed my mind about Old time radio shows, I think it might be a cool addition to the site and attract an older, more mature audience. Kong if you'd be so kind could you add another vote to old radio for me? I'd do it but I don't want it to look like I messed with the results.
Overall I'd like to see foreign and hack games win though. Out of all the options I think that would be the most appealing to most people.
I just checked this out, and I gotta say, it looks pretty awesome. If the laser disk can pull of stuff like this, than it seems like an obvious choice to me. If we could get laserdisk games on here, even if they have slowdowns, I think it might just rock all kinds of socks.
Still, it should be thoroughly thought through. Flash emulators could be pretty nifty, but would they run as quick as java lite and/or have the save features as java full?
Old time radio shows seem a bit boring to me. I can't imagine just sitting their listening for twenty or so minutes.
I have, and they are really cool. Its like watching Tv, only you use your mind to watch along.
Oh yeah Kong, the WII can play some youtube videos.. however youtube made an XL version of some sort for the Wii that lets you watch the videos easier.

About slowdowns, the biggest bottle neck is going to be bandwidth. If your computer can't play hulu.com vidoes with zero lag then you will probably have trouble with these. But most people can do hulu with fine.

They will not have many features at first. No sound, saves or scores. The speed will be between NES java full mode and NES Java Lite Mode. SMS and GB will be the first systems. NES will probably be third. There will be room for improvement but this first generation is not going to be perfect. If you have a choice every one would choose ArcadeOX first, Java Second, Flash third. This is only good for people that do not have the first two choices. And I imagine one day soon the Wii will get Flash 10 and at that point it would be very good to have this waiting and ready.

I started adding old radio shows because I have a cold and they don't take much concentration to add, just lots of time, which is what I am looking for right now. I made it through the A's. I'll probably get through B before my cold is gone and stop there for now.
Laser Disk and Improve ArcadeOX are in the lead. So lets discuss them.
What would you like to see happen with ArcadeOX?

Improve the whole temp file situation. - I agree.
Add support for other sites to use ArcadeOX. - Like? IE play RU games on other sites?
Add ability to run untrusted files from other sites safely. So you could run a file that might have a virus and still be safe. Like a condom for the Internet. - If we could get Photoshop CS2 like this I'd be so happy I miss Photoshop.
Honestly I think this is a big issue and should be a priority. We're talking about saved games being deleted right?
The plan, add a button to open the ArcadeOX folder on your computer so you can easily access and manage files. Button would appear below the "Toggle Pop Up" button.
Also if the ArcadeOX Temp folder starts to get large display a warning message.
In Firefox use Programs Folder instead of Temp Folder.
In IE there is no option, it has to stay in the temp folder. So if you want to back up your saves you will need to click the folder button and then manually copy the files to a safe location.
Also it would be an option to store saves on the server the same as Java does but this would be difficult and take a larger donation and more time.

I mean allow other sites to run games in ArcadeOX directly from their site. Two ways of doing this, either give them the files so they can do it themselves or allow them to upload the games here and we host them and they embed them the same as they would embed a Youtube video.

Nothing that big. The main point would be to run small untrusted files. Something that is under 10MB and you want to use but think it might have a virus. You could run it inside ArcadeOX and not risk being infected by the virus.
Also you can post new ideas that I haven't thought of yet.
