Borderlands.

Does this game look amazing or what?
I really wish I had the cash. Does anyone have this yet? Can you drop any advice?

It looks like a cross between Call of Duty and Fallout3. I wanna get it but I also don't have the extra cash. I will be getting Tekken 6 in a few days though, I can't pass that up.

Hit up Blockbuster, man.

Yeah, it's like Fallout 3, but cartooned up, and leaning more on the FPS engine, less on RPG, which is my kind of zone.

Re: Borderlands.

Looks like every other FPS out there. It's too bad as well but as long as people keep purchasing status quo, developers will keep creating it.

Tone down the action dial, crank up the challenge and resource management. Add in lots of stealth, a huge sandbox, and a great theme like maybe 28 Days Later. Count me in on that one.

You're leaving out the part about how most next gen gamers love FPS. You can't blame companies for making games players want.

Re: Borderlands.

It's true. I have my adventure/stealth/puzzle games, and then I have my co-op shoot-em-ups that has RPG elements for replay value. This game is going to be the game that I will actually play $60 worth, over and over.

What other FPS does it look like?

I guess hand to hand combat wouldn't really be a first person shooter, unless you had a fist gun.

That's like Mirror's Edge. Awful game.

Blame them for what? I see no problem with people liking FPS games. I doubt you'd feel this way if there was a sudden surge in retro style RPGs.

People like to play through the characters eyes(like in FPS) so they can feel like they're actually doing it. 3D makes the world you play in seem more real. Seems pretty obvious to me why it's popular.

I blame this on the crappy quality of most RPGs and other non FPS in recent history. I think people are jaded from buying/renting these turds so they go with a game type they can count on to at least deliver what they promise, first person view and shooting stuff until it dies.
I know personally that I've been let down by many games recently(last few years) and the majority of games I buy are RPG or RTS.
If I buy a FPS game I can rest assured that I'll enjoy it and I can play it online with my friends. I think that's the bottomline, they deliver an entertaining product.

It's all kinds of 3D but I think you'd love Oblivion Kong. It's one of the better RPGs I've ever played and it gives you so much freedom it's almost unheard of. Almost because Morrowind was better in everyway besides graphics. Both games are epic RPGs and I feel bad you'll probably never play them.

You give Halo way too much credit. The people who first became obsessed with Halo were already addicts to games like Doom and Goldeneye, I know because me and my friends were. Halo was just the next big thing in FPS.
There is the obvious exception of course, the little Halo noobs who currently plague the community. This is thier first FPS and it is serious business

I blame them for purchasing another FPS that's only difference is it's setting. I have no problem with people liking FPS games either. It's akin to the NES days where every other game was a platformer. Sure I'd love a surge in JRPGs but they'd still need to bring something else to the table besides their genre for me to purchase them. That or being a sequel to a game I liked such as FFIV - TAY.

The only two that I've played recently is Tales of Symphonia 2 and Dragon Quest: Swords. ToS2 was an adequate JRPG with highly likeable characters and DQ:S put a very unique, though disheartening spin on BRPGs.

The video you posted wasn't 3D. Looked similar to Out of This World or Flashback.

It started happening before Halo.

Re: Borderlands.

So, yeah, Borderlands...

I think this game is pretty awesome. I only played it for about half an hour at a friend's house, but the shooting seems tight, really smart decisions were made with the co-op game play, and the art style/humor make it really easy to just keep playing.

I give it two thumbs up.

Yeah that's why I said it's sad he'll probably never try it. Oblivion is pretty awesome and I'm sure he'd like it if he could play it.

That was my point, there are still a wide variety of two dimensional gaming. But you are right, people are obsessed with the free world genre, when some of the best games are the most simple in theory.

Yes, there are some good free world games, but it's completely overused, and developers usually cut numerous corners. This results in a mediocre game that took too much time to make.

So yes, I agree.

Also, why is THQ still around?

And why the heck do developers still make games based on movies?

Re: Borderlands.

I played this game extensively over the weekend. The hype for this game made me a bit disappointing. While it is very well done, and it can be pretty fun with a friend, or 3 online. It never really made me want more. The way the mission's are done is just horrible. No dialogue except for a few smart ass comments, but after that you can just get the mission done and get the next one. Fallout 3 is far superior to this game, in my own personal opinion. Fallout 3 is one of my favorite games in the XBOX library.

I was hoping for more, so I guess it's my fault I didn't enjoy it that much. Haha. Definiatly worth a rent. Not sure about a buy though, might be a one play through type of game for some, for me it didn't deserve an extended Gamefly playthrough.

Technically, sure, but to me, it just sounds like a pile of randomized equipment. You probably will only really enjoy two or three throughout the course of the game.

Skayde, I've been very disappointed with Fallout 3 and Mass Effect because of the lack of FPS structure (3PS in Mass Effect's case). I'm looking forward to this game because of what I've heard, it's a FPS first, RPG second, which I've been waiting for. I know the story will be awful (which is sad, coming from the makers of Bioshock), but I just need a shoot-em-up. I'm sorry for the disappointment, though, I'm on the Blockbuster calling list, so I'll know what it's like soon enough.

PS- I was only disappointed in Fallout 3 in that one aspect. The rest was fantastic, including the continuous plays of I Don't Want To Set The World On Fire.

Mass Effect thoroughly disappointed me. Thoroughly.
