Nights: The sega franchise
I'm just curious about how this game seemed to be the #1 game on Saturn, Yet on DC & Wii they were horrible I find it in bargain bins all the time.
Why did this series rise and fall?

Re: Nights: The sega franchise
i think the reason you see it in bargain bins is because it sold a lot of copies

Re: Nights: The sega franchise
It's simple, really.
The Saturn one was awesome, and the Wii one wasn't. I didn't know there was a Dreamcast version.

Re: Nights: The sega franchise
there was no Dream cast nights.. only a mini game for the Memory sticks I think.. but no dream cast game.
The saturn version is heralded because it was among the first analog games. till then most games you used the good ol' D-pad for everything. since Nights its been analog for most games sicne the saturn days. It was also a very animated and graphically pleasing game, you had the little denezins you could interact with an everything.. you also had the option of, simply ignoring nights and checking the stage out 3d exploration style. (Which I did alot.. lol this places are just amazing.)
I have never played the Wii version of the nights game, so I dont have any opinion on it, but I know why the saturn version is so awesome.
(still plays it every now and then..)
heres the wiki page for nights

Re: Nights: The sega franchise
Weird I never heard of it until now. Doesn't look like something I'd like anyways. Funny main character though.

Re: Nights: The sega franchise
i thought the original game, Nights into Dreams was great. i think i remember talk at some point of making nights rival sonic as the sega mascot, both were created by the same development team. nights suffered the same problems as sega though, it couldn't compete with mario for nintendo or crash bandicoot for the ps.

Here I am! Well, the Saturn game was impressive due to it's graphics and gameplay. I've never played the DC game, but the wii game was horrid due to it's bad controls. Basically, SEGA didn't even care anymore.

Re: Nights: The sega franchise
crash was the unoffical mascot, based on the exclusive contract for crash to appear in ps only games, the mascot idea in a whole has been dropped, mario is obviously recognized, but that is really a left over from the nintendo/sega 16 bit console wars.

Re: Nights: The sega franchise
Correction, Crash was used in GBA games.
@Laser1134: Yeah SEGA doesn't seem to care about much of their franchises anymore, Monkeyball 2 was the last good SEGA game I played, Recent games wise.
and thats 2004.
They even made that series hit a dead end...
SEGA just let themselves go.
Speaking of mascots, I think Olimar was pretty much Gamecubes mascot.

Not true, Mad world and the House of the Dead franchise are fine, but their platformers suck now.
I disagree about Olimar simply because Mario was still the most popular mascot on the system.

Re: Nights: The sega franchise
crash bandicoot was made by naughty dog who owned the rights until 2000 when they sold the rights to crash. before then, sony had an exclusive contract with naughty dog that crash would only appear in playstation games. so no, a correction is not needed.
crash has since been bought and sold by eurocom, traveler's tales, vicarious visions (subsidiary of universal interactive), sierra entertainment, and the franchises current owner, activision
cam, you wouldn't remember, but in the mid to late 90's crash was a huge staple of playstation's advertising campaigns. often having a man in a full sized crash costume with a place cut out for his face.
there was a change in the advertising around this time as the companies moved away from having a face of their console and moved to having multiple software icons, using commericals for the software to sell the console instead. that is a tread that has continued today. most commericals advertise a game, with details and price about the console at the end of the commerical.

Re: Nights: The sega franchise
oh, lol, yeah, I remember those crash ads, I do believe those ads went into the 2000's
@Laser: I said 'most' not 'all' sega franchises suck, they all end up that way in the end though...
@Jim again: What about Spyro, If memory serves, That was another sony mascot, that franchise also ended up on the GBA.

Re: Nights: The sega franchise
mascots..
ninentdo: mario
Sega: sonic.
Sony was Crash, but has no official
Microsoft WAS master cheif, but has no official one.
Sicne Sony and microsoft release the same games now, they wont have a mascot for a long time. Unless you think of Sony with Kratos form God of War.. but I think 3 is gonna be on Xbox 360..
Dante might work from DMC series...
and for th last time there WAS no Dreamcast nights game.. I have looked around for it and have found no informationa botu a nights game ever being on the dreamcast.. he made cameos, thats about it..
any way.. this topic is abotu nights.. not system mascots.s so please get back on topic...lol

Re: Nights: The sega franchise
@cam, same thing with spyro, the character was originally owned by insomniac games and during that time had an exclusive contract with sony. insomniac sold the character in 2000 as well. i believe for a while universal interactive owned both spyro and crash.
@belmontzar, we got onto mascots cause nights could be considered an unoffical saturn mascot, as it was the top selling and most popular game for the saturn. sonic never had a standalone platformer on the saturn, sonic jam was a compulation disc, sonic 3d blast was released on the genesis as well as the saturn, and sonic r was a racing game.
best game on the saturn was snatcher btw.

Re: Nights: The sega franchise
I thought sonic R was pretty fun, 3D blast... only tried it on the gensis and... no saves I heard the saturn version was pretty okay.
What did sonic jam include?
Spyro was boring on the GBA, But I heard it fared off to be quite good on the psone, although I don't like the ps1, It seems theres one sitting in the game room again... I have no clue where it came from no joke
Nintendo and sega were the best, But now nintendo just keeps ticking me off, So I'm hoping zeebo will be good.
