What inspired this topic was my frustration on a topic on another site. The title of the topic was something like "Best Graphics 2015". It seemed like all anyone cared about was polygon count, texture resolution, lighting FX and shaders. By the standards they had set, there was no room for a game like say Yoshis Wooly World for example, witch is absolutely beautiful.
It's seems to me that for a lot of people the word graphics is kinda interchangeable with hardware power.
Like DN metioned the problem lies in properly defining the 2 terms. The more I think about it, the more I think separating them might be impossible. It almost seems like the term "graphics" switches meaning depending on the game being reviewed. For example a game like Forza 5, it's an extremely impressive example of realistic graphics that rely on a powerful machine, but aside from UI, has basically nothing in terms of design. Then take a game like Kid Icarus Uprising, low resolution, low poly count... but design wise it's jaw dropping.

It seems like most gamers who comment on gaming articles only care about hardware power. Ironically most seem to be on consoles.
I got really annoyed recently when reading about Fallout 4 because that's where every conversation ended up. People apparently care a lot about how the ruins of civilization look. And trees! Who is playing a game like FO and wasting time checking out how realistic the dead trees look? On top of that why are expectations so high, did people not pay attention to the other games in the series? I wanna assume a lot of people are trolling but I know they're not. Kids gamers these days
@Seahawk- So true. Fallout 4 is coming out in a week and the only thing some people are talking about is how the graphics for it look bad. That's fine though, while I'm playing it and having a shitload of fun, they can keep sitting there complaining about graphics to the internet.
