Sacked Square Enix CEO Youichi Wada’s decision to relocate the company based on the advice of a feng shui (or “fuusui” as it is known in Japan) master is being blamed for the company’s precipitous decline.
One Square Enix employee has this to say about the matter:
Quote:
Our company moved from Shinjuku to east Shinjuku. No clear reason was given for the transfer, and people were joking that Wada made the choice for reasons of feng shui. But the truth is it may have had the opposite effect, and the rumour is that the new location has very bad feng shui.
It’s not just our corporate performance which suffered – young creative staff have died suddenly and others have been afflicted with cancer. Some have been saying we would have been better off giving them a Shinto exorcism. And perhaps it would have been better had Wada decided our new location according to feng shui alone.
Whilst directly attributing the company’s failure to poor geomancy would likely be an absurd conclusion, attributing it to a CEO so utterly inept as to base business decisions on what a fortune teller told him might well be a plausible explanation.
In fact, no less than top Square Enix composer Nobuo Uematsu has said in a 2008 interview that Wada himself told him a “Taiwanese fortune teller called Pao” advised him where to move the company HQ, and that as he could not abide their new location he left the company.

That open space or being bunkered into walls might affect your mindset at a given time shouldn't come off as a surprise and is no particular stretch imo. Now, there is no reason to pour a more magical component into it.
WT frig? Why did a bunch of posts get deleted from this thread? I remember posting here and it's gone. I answered DB's question with: "Because it's the basis of design." Then we went back and fourth and I proceeded to make DB look dumb. DB did you delete our posts because I made you look dumb?

No I didn't delete any posts and I resent the implication that I would because the conversation didn't go well for me. I have never deleted any posts unless they broke the site rules. Get over yourself, jeez.
I don't remember your posts but I seriously doubt they made me look dumb about this subject. It might've seemed that way in your mind but I think I'd remember if I was schooled on something as silly as Feng Shui. Feel free to repeat your support of this nonsense and prove me wrong though, should be a good for a laugh.

Fine, I believe in feng shui to the extent that it can certainly effect your mood. That's how design works. For example are you gonna set up your dinner table next to a window with a beautiful ocean view? Or would you set up your dinner table in a dark corner with no windows at all? Wuld you put your TV in a place that you can see it from a comfortable place?
So I've explained how I think it can effect your mood, you now tell me why you believe it has no effect. I'm not going to play AADBE, you must contribute why you think the way you do.
You're not even gonna pretend to be sorry for accusing me of deleting posts dishonestly? Real classy. For the record I reported your post and asked Kong to look into where the posts went. You're welcome.
There's no proof that feng shui has any basis in reality. If you go into it thinking it will effect your mood then it probably will. What you're describing(ocean view instead of a dark corner) isn't feng shui it's common sense.
The burden of proof is on feng shui supporters not the skeptics. Give us some evidence of it doing anything, your gut feeling doesn't count.
Feng shui is more of a religious/spiritual belief that says objects and spaces and locations have specific powers but not in the way you are talking about.
Square didn't move their location because of any logical, rational, intuitive sense such as lower taxes, less commute for workers, better building, etc. They moved because of an undetectable spiritual energy in that particular location.
In your example, if the dark corner of the room was on an energy path way then they would say put the table there. And if your window with the wonderful view was on a bad spiritual pathway then block the window and if you want to be richer then buy a $2,000 water fountain and put $3,000 worth of crystals in it.
Those are just examples, I don't know exactly what they would say, and they usually don't either because it is very rare that they would ever agree.
What you are talking about is interior design which is just based on common sense. Part of Feng Shui is interior decorating and makes sense and works, but that is just a small part.
Bentley and Steven, you are talking about interior decorating.
There is a huge difference in interior decorating and feng shui.

I checked. No posts have ever been deleted in this thread.
Yeah, but as long as you believe in feng shui, interior decorating can affect you in a more psychological way, and actually become a much more powerful item than it would be in normal situations.
The belief on a spiritual flux of energies and balance only adds to the effect of something that truly exists and that can be attached to ergonomics.
I hate the merger, I can't help to think that if not for the merger, DQX would not be an mmo, and we'd actually be getting it here on a console or handheld.
