I haven't been here for a while, and I guess that you may have already discussed this but I'll go ahead anyway. A Justice League movie is supposedly being formed together and I'd just like to know what people want that this movie.
I want an epic, intense movie with plenty of action, but a substantial plot and interesting characters. While that may be obvious as to what a movie should be, comic book films tend to be a shifting group in terms of quality. While most aren't fantastic films, I don't want that filmmakers don't take the easy route and throw in cliche, contrived plots and generic characters and battle scenes (while I enjoyed the Avengers, it wasn't really original). I really don't want another 'Transformers' film series. With that said, though, I don't want that it go the 'dark and edgy' route, or try to be some philosophical pseudo-realistic anthology piece. The source material is entertainment-based, not 'profound,' and neither are these films, and if they try to be then they're just pretentious. I just want a well-made sci-fi action film which remains true to the source material, although I don't want Plastic Man or the Atom in there. I also hope that there will be several major villains, not just one (another drawback of the Avengers).
One more thing. I don't want Nolan anywhere near this! I want a real director.
Besides Batman I just can't bring myself to like any DC characters. It's also boring to have a team with Superman on it. He's the team, the other people just get some token face time so it's not another Superman beats up everyone comic.
Superman does tend to overshadow everyone else. Batman has a popular characters and Martian Manhunter is nearly as powerful but Superman has both of that. However, if they make this film then they should make effort so that this doesn't occur.

So you got two guys who can basically do anything and are nearly invincible(superbro and greed lampshade). Batman who despite being a fan favorite will need to be rebooted. Then WW who will probably end up being a token female empowerment character and Flash who will be kinda boring. I just can't see this working. I hope it does surprise me though, we need more comic stories on the big screen.

They don't need to reboot Batman or Green Lantern. They should introduce the new versions of those characters in the Justice League movie. There's really no point to another Batman movie because all his good villains have been used anyway. Unfortunately, WW would seem like a token character and the Flash doesn't interest me at least, so they need much reworking so that they could be used in a movie. MM, however, would interest me very much. Although he's similar to Superman in origin and abilities, he's a distinct character, and would at least be fun to watch in fight scenes.
For the villains, they could use an evil cabal of villains from various series, which would create intense fight scenes, but may seem very contrived.
One more point remains that I must make. I'm all for a film which is realistic, not as in a scientific way, after all, but in a social and characteristic way. I've had enough of overdone sci-fi action films with no sensibility. However, what I really don't want is pseudo-realism, which is a bunch of people blabbering about moralistic philosophies that don't really relate to modern society or to the story at hand if one analyzes it. People doing things for ideology makes sense but only if the ideology makes sense, in it's own way. Some guy obsessed with chaos who gets away with everything isn't real. Talking about life and philosophy during crises and events doesn't really happen so it's not realistic. Let's understand that!
Well when I say reboot I meant in the JL movie not something separate. My point is they'd have to drop the super popular Nolan Batman and start over which would be a big risk. GL might not need a reboot though. I thought the movie sucked and I heard it wasn't well received but I think actual GL fans liked it. Well, they guy I know who's obsessed with GL seemed to like it.
I think they'll stay away from unfamiliar characters for the first movie. Outside of comic book fans no one really knows characters like Martian Manhunter. Btw DC has some of the corniest names, MM being a great example.
Yes I remember how much you hate Nolans take on Batman. Sadly for you it was a huge success and that might influence other super hero movies in the future.
@Tails- If they had Superman taken out early and for most of the movie it'd be awesome.
I agree that they'll go with more popular heroes because they'd be more bankable, which is fine by me as I'm Not interested in the Atom and Plastic Man (who disturbs me by the way).
In terms of cast and crew I hope that they chose talent over popularity (but I think that of every movie).
I think they'll go with popularity since JL isn't a safe bet for a movie. I hope they get lucky and choose popular people with talent.
We should post our predictions now so we can laugh(or cry) once it's released.
Green Lantern- Ryan Reynolds again.
Superman- the guy in the upcoming movie
Wonder Woman- they might feel like the cast is too white so they'll make her black or latino. I'm gonna guess black but as for an actress I have no idea
Flash- same as WW but I think they'll make him latino.
Batman- It will be a younger actor for sure. If they're smart they'll ignore the last Batman movie and make Gordon Levitt Bruce Wayne. From what I read the studio likes Jake Gyllenhaal. That would be awful, worse than anything Bale did.
If they want a black actor then they should use John Stewart as GL because he's actually a black character in the comics. I like multiracial movies but they should stick with the ethnicities of characters as they are. MM is also black in certain cases. On that note, Wonder Woman shouldn't be played by a western European actress because mythical Amazonians are from northern Africa, or eastern Europe in certain myths, so they should look in that direction, especially if they want actual ethnic diversity. Also, 'latino' is not a racial/ethnic group.
Bale was terrible as Batman. Every other role in which I've watched him was good or at least passable, but his Batman was just annoying and whiny and I couldn't understand a single word that he said. Plus his Bruce Wayne was stiff and uncharismatic.
I know what Latino means but it's an erroneous and vague term.
Here's a side topic on superheroes. Daredevil has reverted back to Marvel, and some wonder if a new Daredevil film will be made. To me it's just a big "What's the Point?" They did one film, and though it was poor, it used the only good villians which the series had. Who wants to see "Owl" and "Matador" on a movie screen? Not me. I know that he has fans, and I'm not greatly against this coming out, but I just see no point, because he's never entertained me. Of course, neither have Ant-Man, the Wasp, Aquaman, the Flash, the Atom or Plastic Man, but they could at least appear in an upcoming Justice League or Avengers film. Daredevil is just a solo vigiliante from one town and so I also don't expect that he'd really fit in with the other Marvel characters, especially the powerful ones (which is also why I wasn't entirely convinced by Hawkeye and Black Widow in "The Avengers" either). But that's just my thoughts. I don't hate any of these characters, but I'm not particularly interested in them either.
I was never a fan of DD either. I think the main problem with the movie was casting Affleck, he's hard to take seriously in any role. I kinda hope they do reboot the character so we can more easily ignore the first one.
I also had a problem with Hawkeye and Black Widow in that movie. Hawkeye at least had something to contribute, BW was just eye candy.
While Daredevil truly would have been better with a better lead actor, that series is really only good for one movie. And, in terms of the wider Marvel Universe, a local vigilante with no powers or very distinct skillls doesn't really compare to superhuman and high-tech global defenders in a team up.
Speaking of which, I hear that Avengers 2 may have Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch. That interests me more than Ant-Man, the Wasp or Daredevil.
I don't follow DC comics really so I had to look it up, yes his name is John Stewart. As strange as it may seem they would most likely avoid that name because of the connection to The Daily Shows host. He's a household name and people wouldn't miss the connection.
Quicksilver might be cool but SW? She's like a Superman character, seemingly limitless powers which makes her unrelatable and corny.
I'm not sure what Scarlet Witch does, other than manipulate probability.
I worry now, though, that the Avengers 2 may suffer from character crowding, which happened to Spider-Man 3, The Dark Knight Rises, and X-3. I also wonder if people may tire of the Marvel films if they make too many of them.
Scarlet witch can alter reality and basically do whatever she wants. It's pretty boring. The only interesting part was when she snapped and changed reality for the entire planet(maybe even the universe) including depowering most mutants.
Nah Marvel is interesting I doubt people will tire of it anytime soon. DC is the one that needs to worry with it's corny characters and ho hum stories. They've been playing catch up for a while now.
