To Ditch A Virus...

Anyone ever heard of Antivir? I got this thing on my computer and now the whole thing is messed up. It won't run any* applications and frequently gives me pop ups regarding the virus it self. Antivir disguises itself as a virus blocker and charged into my computer without my consent, I can't figure out anyway to get rid of it.

I must have got it when I downloaded a media viewer. Either that or my computer had unprotected sex without my knowledge.

*When I said any, I meant any. Not even stuff like "Add or Remove Programs".

Re: To Ditch A Virus...

Assuming you're using Windows........

Are you able to boot it into safe mode and try that? To start safe mode hold down F8 while your computer starts.

Re: To Ditch A Virus...

I just had the same thing happen on a PC today. A lot of it had to be wiped to fix it. The worst thing is I lost a bunch of save files.

Re: To Ditch A Virus...

Try Seahawks advice
Also try this.
HouseCall - Free Online Virus Scan - Trend Micro USA
And after you have ran housecall and can run programs again you should uninstall your current antivirus and install a new one. 1. The virus probably corrupted your current antivirus. 2. Your current AV did not catch this virus before it installed so it probably is not best suited for removing it either.

For a media viewer use VideoLAN - VLC media player - Open Source Multimedia Framework and Player or GOMlab.com - Play Any Video File, Any Time! The Best Media Player! If something requires a player besides one of those two then it is almost certainly a virus.

Re: To Ditch A Virus...

Its the same as the Security Tool virus, run safe mode and delete the .exe files and all the others. Make sure you get them all or it'll repair itself and get into the memory

Re: To Ditch A Virus...

I had a similar problem, I downloaded Malware from a different computer, loaded it onto a junk drive, then opened the malware from the drive (remember to do so as an adminstrator)
