Dead Rising follows freelance photo-journalist Frank West, as he is
investigating a strange incident in Willamette, Colorado, which has been
sealed off by the Colorado National Guard. Upon inspecting the town,
civilians are acting strange, doing canibalistic acts to bystanders at almost any
turn. Frank decides to do his report in the Willamette Mall, telling his
helicopter pilot to return for him in 72 hours.
Upon arriving, Frank finds the entrance is cramed with zombies at the front
doors. Unfortunately, a panic striken old lady opens the doors to save her dog,
only to kill everyone except for Frank. Now he is tasked with discovering the
cause of this epidemic and save any unfortunate survivors.

The primary objective in Dead Rising is staying alive for 72 hours and wait
for your chopper to come rescue you. The game runs with a 1 in game day per
2 real life hour ratio, meaning players have only 6 hours to finish Dead Rising,
and it will automatically end after the 72 hours.
At 7:00 PM of every day, the Zombies in the mall become stronger, faster and
in greater numbers, making matters worse at 10 PM, the mall shuts down,
leaving Frank Alone in the Dark until sunrise.
Tip: The toy sword also acts as a nightlight, making nighttime much easier.
In addition to surviving the 72 hours, players have "case files" that the player
can complete to reveal the backstory of the infestation. Along with cases are
"scoops", scoops are side missions which don't need to be completed, but they
give valuble Prestige Points (PP) to level Frank up. The scoops each have a
time limit the players have to meet, or else the zombies will eat the survivors.
Scoops are learned via Otis Washington, a mall janitor, who has become
infamous in gaming for the rediculous amounts of times he calls Frank
through out the whole story. In fact, if the call is interupted because of
zombies, Otis will scold Frank for hanging up and then repeat the whole
conversation, this has given him a reputation that many bloggers have made
paradies about

There are a total of 49 survivors Frank can encounter, some will be innocent
civilians, while others are psychopaths that he must defeat:

At first the game will be a bit difficult, but after players level Frank up via PP
through killing zombies, killing psychopaths, completing missions, or taking
photographs. As Frank levels up, he will either increase one of his stats, gain a
new slot for equipment, or gain a new skill, such as the disembowel, where
Frank removes a zombie's internal organs for an instant kill.

But the real place Dead Rising shine is the zombie killing, and you'll have alot
of it. There are over 250 weapons to kill zombies with, some being almighty
powerful such as a car or the chainsaw, or useless, like jewelery or teddy
bears. Unfortunately, after using weapons for a while, they'll crumble apart,
forcing players to acquire new weapons as they go. Although annoying, it
gives Dead Rising balance rarely seen in beat 'em ups.
Graphics:
Although Dead Rising did have alright graphics for its time, its starting to show in
the Wii version. Pixils can easily be seen in cutscenes, but nothing too serious to
discus.
Sound:
Dead Rising has a unique soundtrack, while one would expect a game with
zombies in it would have a horror or rock soundtrack, Dead Rising instead has
unique "Mall Music" playing inside the mall, which suprisingly is entertaining
to listen to.

Dead Rising does have its fair share of cheesy dialogue, such as Frank's infamous
"I've Covered Wars You Know?" line:
Overall:
Dead Rising is a suprisingly fun game, because it makes players switch weapons, it
keeps gameplay fresh and entertaining, the leveling also helps add to this.
Both Frank and the Wilamette Mall make an apperance in Tatsunoko vs. Capcom,
where he brings a whole arsonal of attacks from Dead Rising to defeat foes:
