I remember seeing this and declining his offer, even though I would have liked to get some of my scores verified. The problem with someone else paying for you is that okay say someone pays this time, but what about next time and the time after that?
I am a player who constantly submits scores on a regular basis so having someone pay my way once isn't going to cut it. I need free submissions.
I don't mind donating to an organization who provides this service, but an order for anyone to submit and to make this hobby fun it has to be free submissions. I personally believe in a donation model for TG. I'd probably donate $100 a year.
I felt exactly the same way as you. I can't remember the name of the kind gent that was offering this, but I didn't take him up on the offer. I also had another great guy here in Australia offer to pay for my submission several times, not only that, he offered to buy me a dedicated PCB a couple of years ago - which I also declined. It goes to show that there are plenty of generous people that will support the TG brand.
While I really did want to get my name as #1 for an original arcade title, albeit not so much when they lost Guinness, it really did feel like I would be selling out if I accepted these offers when I had been more than vocal on several CAG forums about how ridiculous this pay for records thing was.
End of the day, now that TG is down (AGAIN!) I'm glad I didn't waste the money of these very generous individuals by having my score paid for, probably never verified, and then TG going *POOF* yet again.
I believe a couple of scores were paid for by the guy on TG, Michael Sroka (who has just joined, see post above ^^^) had a score paid for if I'm not mistaken, and last I heard it hadn't been verified. Not that TG were getting many submissions, but I wonder what happens to the poor souls that paid them and never got a score verfied Add to that, the scores they were verifying were taking as long, if not longer to get verified than the old TG (n.b. I found the old TG times for verification more than acceptable).

Well if you paid for your submission via PayPal, time to make a claim back on that before it's too late.
As for Guinness, I don't know if the real story between the split ever came out - I think TG defended the split in some way, but my guess would be that Guinness may have received several emails from former members complaining about having to pay to set Guinness WRs

Kong, keep developing ChamPOW. I think you've got a great opportunity here. Any and all records submitted to ChamPOW can be compared against Twin Galaxies score legacy since you have a mirror of their data.
Erik's new site lists Cat DeSpira, Brent Martin and Rich Booth as contributors. That might mean that those people chose to abandon TG or it might mean that Erik just left their names on the site when he copied everything.
A few months ago Cat was really angry at me because I made a back up of the TG scores. I wonder if she still thinks that was a bad idea.
Cat's stuff is gone now, so I'm guessing full copy and paste.
While I really love Retro Uprising I only want to submit my scores to 1 scoreboard and thats the one where its official.
What does official mean? Do you need someone who calls themselves a ref to verify your score or are you still stuck on needing to submit your score somewhere where you can get credit for your score without having to make your game play public?
Unless you are setting records on actual Arcade games, I don't get your beef. Submitting to MARP, RU or even Youtube is just as "official" as TG has ever been for emulated scores.
Well there buddy thats because TG went down the drain! They lost credibility with Guiness Book Of World Records in the Game section , Walter Day Retired , And the owners of the site and everything else sold the rights to 1-UP. Sooo to make a long story short , They no longer rule , they suck , and the owners just completely just disregard doing anything to better the site because they have lost so many members! AND YOU HAVE TO PAY MONEY TO SUBMIT RECORDS NOW!!!! Who the hell wants to do that?
sadly, what he said is correct.I own 120 plus arcade pcbs...(many of them emulated just fine right here...) but I love playing for world record scores in a live event..(some people..videogamescoreboard.com are doing that still, but they also seem to focus on handhelds and phones more than arcades. Aurcade.com as well does stuff live..(grinkers second annual tournement next october(in Idaho)...and they do the yearly funspot touney as well. I love the MAME competition that is here, with today and fly..(I dont like the option of autofire...(unless the option was a choice in the arcade version...but I understand why it was chosen..)..today has beaten my all time world record at Psycho soldiersIyesterday) and it is really making me think and strategize about how I play the game..(arcade and MAME versions..) I hated mame..cause people were "playing in their basements and not showing anyone/teaching anyone their skills or validity...(it is VERY different playing in front of an audience.)... sid seattle

We do a show the northwest pinball and gameroom show each year in June and if anyone is planning on showing up and wants to try for a WR score on a particular Pcb that I own; just give me some notice beforehand. It is in Tacoma Washington the first weekend in June. I can probably even get you a pass to get into the show for free as well. Look at klov.com for my list of pcbs...(always changing.. I just got a terra force and a chelnov: atomic runner. I seem to have a few of the " only one Pcb left" like battlantis.trick trap.toypop..... nice to meet you all.
I have a cousin that lives in Tacoma. He was stationed there for the army and never left, He loves it there! Sadly I live in Virginia, very far away because im definitely interested!
jason, seems like you would know..1. is there a way from either my profile or the "home" screen to go to my favorites..without hitting coin op..and then finding a favorite and getting there that way?..seems kinda redundant..to do it the way that I have been..and 2. is there any talk of having champow/RU refs..going to live events and tracking..arcade game scores..( that would be something that I am rather good at.(I worked for 5 arcade manufacturers..BITD.....Irem/fabtek/MS/Nintendo/culture brain..and did level design/customer service/marketing for quite a few of these games..r-type/Mr. heli(battle chopper), dragon breed(st. dragon..for the home systems)...hammerin harry/toki...(to name a few) and in the last 2.5 years I have 15 verified(by various places) #1 WR scores...(all arcade except mr. driller online(xbox360)...sid seattle..
c,mon people work on scores for saboten bombers..(lets beat Brians score(10,000,000 at dark tower...)..if scores here in score mode count as "world record scores" that would be great...would the site..who has the video imbedded..submit scores on our behalf?..
I think thats pretty awesome! Especially R-Type, I grew p playing that! And as of right now, Champow is being worked on at the moment to record world records through this site, It may be a while but since TG lost credibility , Were next in line!
is there any talk of having champow/RU refs..going to live events and tracking..arcade game scores.
That is not something I personally want to ever undertake. If someone else wants to do it all on their own and proves they are capable then I will lend them the RU or CP name and site but they would have to manage everything without requiring much time or finical investment from me.

Scores submitted here at RU will automatically be submitted to ChamPOW where if they are top scores they will be considered world records. With the possible exceptions of games using marathon rules (twitch is a better system for this) and SRAM enabled games (RPGs).
I see that Twin Galaxies has a new banner on their facebook page. This banner is a picture of a phoenix. Apparently they are trying to say that they will come back to life like the phoenix does in mythology or something like that.

What are your thoughts
I think it's too little too late. You can only piss of your fanbase so much before they abandon you for good.
One of the players is an ex-TG ref and this is Jace's Twitch channel.
For the Robotron 100million gauntlet challenge, there were over 200 thousand viewers.
Check it out and join the fun...this ain't your momma's TG world anymore friends.
