Re: NFL

Eh. Mike Tomlin's great, Hines is good for some comedy relief on PTI, and I respect the fact that one of these days Roethlisberger actually isn't going to come out of the coma caused by his injuries. But the Steelers have had enough of their moments. Go Cards.

The only negative I see to the Cards winning is having to hear, for the 8 billionth time, how Warner used to live in a van down by the river. But we're gonna have to hear that whether they win or not, so you may as well go with 'em.

BTW, does anybody else feel like we're getting punk'd by Disney in this whole thing? Like this is going to turn out to be another installment of "Angels in the End Zone?" I can just see it now; about halftime, some boy stands up in the north end zone flapping his arms, and suddenly everyone sees the angel behind Warner. Speaking of which, Fitzgerald has to be descended from some sort of divine being. That kid is crazy.

Edit: sorry, Ten, your post came while I was typing. You covered some of what I said. Ah well. Sue me. And go Cards anyway.

I have been a fan of football quite a number of years. And as I'm loyal to my Bengals I have disliked the Steelers ever since they knocked the Bengals out of the Super Bowl. I will give the devil his due and say that they are a damn good team. However I will never forgive them for what they did to the Bengals. They must suffer!!!!!!!!!!!!! (Ahem...sorry, sore subject.)

Re: NFL

turns out that i missed the best part of that game, turned it off after that business going into halftime.

i am annoyed at sportscenter, already saying the holmes catch is the greatest of all-time...oh come on. this is the problem with us and sports, it is always "what have you done for me lately". last year's catch was better. beside, it was a better throw by roethlisberger (he should have been mvp btw, pittsburgh loses that game if he doesn't play...1and20 anyone?)

anywho, hope you took today off from work ten.

I did get nervous a little but then I realized Ben "Clutch" Roethlisberger had the ball in his hands. Just seeing his anger and determination going on to the field I knew we were at least going to tie it. That and the copious amount of alcohol in my blood stream assisted me from having a heart attack.

The beautiful thing is only one defensive starter (McFadden) is up for free agency.

Re: NFL

Eh... so we should all be happy that the integrity of the sport was preserved because the team with the more diehard fans won? Because Arizona hasn't paid their dues in the postseason? I'm not really buying. I've never been a fan of the dynasty team in any sport (of course, my nfl teams are the Fish and the Jags, so go figure). I like Reilly, but I think he should stick to his humor column.

The better team won Sunday. But they were better because they outplayed the Cards, not because their fans are more annoying (which they are... no offense, Ten). And it was a heck of a game. My biggest beef was that Harrison should have been ejected after the cheap shot. But it's a big boy sport. And Harrison had already made his impact at the end of the 2nd.

Re: NFL

I disagree with your video. So because Pittsburgh has passion they deserve to win? Arizona fans and players still wanted to win. If they hadn't put forth passion and effort they wouldn't have gotten where they got.

If passion meant you deserved it, The Roots would be the most famous act in hip-hop. But instead, you probably don't know who The Roots are, because that's reality.

Also, dude said the NFL now has their Yankees? I don't want the NFL to have their Yankees. Teams like the Yankees aren't good for a sport.

I am not a Cardinals fan. I am a fan of the underdog.

Edit: This comment on that video also said it well

slnicely says:
Tue Feb 03 2009 12:45:57
Rick Reilly illustrated very clearly everything that is wrong in today's sports culture. There is no right or wrong team in sports. Congratulations to the Steeler Nation. I am sure they are elated and proud of their team. But the Cardinal fans are just as proud of ours. Perhaps Reilly should leave the elite resorts of Scottsdale the next time he visits Arizona before he makes sweeping condmenations of the city, the team and the fans. I would like to see him tell the thousands of people fed by the Bidwell's generosity at the food bank that the Bidwills are not worthy people. Or tell the retired USAF fighter pilot that sat in 110 degree weather on aluminum benches in ASU stadium 4 months after an accident threatened his life in enormous pain that his devotion is less true. Or look Larry Fitzgerald, Adrian Wilson, Darnell Dockett, or Kurt Warner in the eye and tell him that his effort is not equal or as valued as that of Ward or Holmes. The team has been in Arizona for 18 years. True some of us of only been fans that long, but there are lifelong fans who have followed and admired the heart and committment of this team. Reilly is a disappointment. I expected more.

Re: NFL

so did da bears.

the steelers finally had some bad luck and lost a couple of close games at the end. they better get on their horse though, cause baltimore could run away with the division, pitt doesn't play them until the end of november i believe.

I'm not much of a sports person, so I don't really follow what's going on in the football world. I do like to watch it though. And my favorite team is the Ravens simply because they are dark purple...

Being a poor pathetic Raider fan, I hope not, but McDaniels has them playing well.

Speaking of the dumpster fire known as the Oakland Raiiiiiidahs, how in the world have they won 2 games, did the Eagles not show up? Even after the Titans thumping this week, I think they (the Titans) could beat the Raiders.

Other than that, the parity the league has always preached is slowly deteriorating from what I have seen the past few years.

i'm never thought that there was any parity. the organizations that are well run have, and continue to do well, pittsburgh, new england, indy, new york, balitmore, they continue to well. the organizations that have bad ownership are the ones that continue to do bad, oakland, detroit, washington, kansas city.

I totally agree, but why do the NFL suits keep trying to push the "parity" of the league when there are so many teams on opposite ends of the spectrum? I think they want to push the parity thing so that it is not compared to baseball.
