Not enough reminding, thread needs like an auto reminder post every time there is 24 hours left in a game maybe? I forgot about the contest majorly twice, and only competed in 3 games as a result.
Time of year is iffy, I had quite a bit of free time, but at the same time, I was doing something every other day or so.
Just not a fan of this style of contest frankly either, sorry to say.
Feedback? There wasn't much activity. Any idea why? Bad time of year for a contest? Board of the same games all year long? Anything else?
I don't know why, is there a chance that some users felt intimidated? A few years ago our scores were pretty humble compared to now-adays. Maybe a lot of players felt that they weren't gonna get top 3, so didn't bother playing at all? It's disappointing though, I don't think a single player went full blast. I think that the idea for the contest was great, after a few games I was within reach of the gamer of the year award, so for me anyway it served it's secondary purpose of generating interest in that.
"My mind is my weapon. My brother has his sword, King Robert has his warhammer and I have my mind... and a mind needs books as a sword needs a whetstone if it is to keep its edge. That’s why I read so much, Jon Snow."
For me it came down to game selection and lack of reminders.
SMB 3 - I've hardly played any SMB and I'm pretty sure that even if I put my heart and soul into it I could never beat those scores in the time we had.
X-Men - I don't enjoy beat em ups so didn't play.
19xx - I like this game but didn't have much time and my skills at shoot em ups is such that I probably couldn't have beat any of the scores anyways.
Badlands - Very short on time but I've played this game before so slapped up a score just to score some points.
Mario bros - I suck at Mario games and don't intend on ever changing that.
It seems like right around this time is when this thread quit having updates and I wasn't smart enough to use the link on the front page. My fault for being lame but I wasn't even sure the game was still going on and got super busy before the Holidays so not sure I could have done much anyways.
This was definetly a busy time for me but the bottom line is that my lack of participation was because of game choices and then not following what was going on.
Congrats to the winners. Despite the lack of participation there were still some really good scores posted.
for me it was that I played all the games for the gamer of the year contest so I knew what games I was going to attempt even though I forgot some of them lol
