ChamPOW is the site I am working on to track all official game scores. It will not be limited to just Twin Galaxy scores. It is still in early stages.
Hopefully Twin Galaxies will use a newer version of MAME when they return. Freezing at .106 is stupid.
I really happy that someone decided to make a back up copy of the scores.
You know I really having a place where all of the official scores are listed because sometimes if you just look at TG and MARP you can miss out on even higher scores that people are not aware of.
For example there is this game where I have the highest score on TG and MARP, but I then found some Japanese site where someone even scored higher than me and I saw in inp so I'm pretty sure its legit, but I had to really search far and wide on the internet to find it.
I as a record setter would really like to know who really has the highest score on a game. You can't call yourself a champion unless you really know that you are on top.
Anyway, I think the biggest challenge with a site like yours it keeping it up to date and making sure that the scores from the various sites are all played under the same settings.

This site, Retrouprising is freaking awesome!
You can play all the games here live without ever having to download the games and such. Its pretty much hassle free. If you are ever stuck someplace and bored all you have to do is come here and have some fun. This place is definitely cool.
Now, here is the thing. Lets say that I do a huge marathon score here at Retrouprising. Okay great I did it now what? Can I now also submit that score to Twin Galaxies for verification? Are you guys using the same version of MAME as TG does? If I set a record here where can I find my inp file? I only ask this because when you do a crazy marathon that lasts like forever and is really taxing on your body you want it to of course count as an official world record right? I don't want to do that type of score twice. Anyways.......

Lets say that I do a huge marathon score here at Retrouprising.
You can set marathon scores here but I do not think we are the absolute best outlet for this. Live, arcade performances and twitch.tv could be better for marathons. But you can set marathon scores here. I suggest talking to a mod first to make sure you understand all rules for the particular game in question. When doing so let us know of any tricks you plan on using.
We have not fully hashed out our rules for marathoning so try to talk to a mod at least a few days before you plan to play.

No and no. Hopefully they will change their rules after reopening.
However your score will automatically be submitted to ChamPOW which will have more accurate world records since it will be pulling from multiple sources.

Agreed. .106 came out in 2006. You don't have to use a "retro" version of MAME to do retrogaming. MAME has had a ton of fixes and new games added since 2006.
Unfortunately, I doubt TG will move away from .106 any time soon.

The reason I ask is that while TG uses a different MAME version, MARP allows submissions using any version of MAME, provided it isn't for 1st place on the game (1st place requires a version of WolfMAME). If the raw inp was available and it worked in a standalone version of MAME, those of us that play at both RU and MARP could take our RU submission and also submit it to MARP.

I think its awesome what your are doing, but really just how are you going to keep up with another scoreboard?
Everytime Twin Galaxies enters in a new score you will have to document that. Without some type of automation program or something you will be doing countless hours of book keeping.
And also you have to do additional research on the scores you enter. Some scores that were in the TG data base have been challenged and or removed or changed. There was this one score for a MAME game that I pointed out to a TG referee that it was actually for another game and that it was mistakenly placed in the wrong category. I was able to tell that it wasn't the right game by looking at the inp by the way. There are some scores which may not even be credible like those crazy 1980's arcade marathon scores. I myself am willing to bet money that the top Robotron arcade score that supposedly took 3 days of playing the game without it accidentally resetting on itself is a bogus score.
Last but not least. There are some scores which are just badly tracked. I finally got the NES Back to the Future scores grandfathered due to poorly set up rules by TG. I myself would have a hard time making a site like yours simply because I would want to be 100% sure that the scores are legit. When I go to some sites and just see a score with no inp who really knows if its real or not.
Anyway just ranting and raving or whatever.

It looks like Twin Galaxies is getting ready to get back up and running. If you read the new update on the site they "claim" that by around Feb 23 ish the database should be back up and running.
Who really knows when it will be, but at least its something to hope for.
I just got back from my meeting with websignia.net and was blown away. The database is finished and searchable. The layout design and functionality were amazing. We are now in the administrative user phase (where we can access the database and add the new scores)
I was outvoted on unleashing this beast until a few more tweaks were completed. “ANXIETY”
Over all I like it. Hands down way way easier to use than the old site.
Here is some constructive feedback in case any TG people are reading this.
The only way to view the scores is to search for a game name. There should be a browse menu and search by system, player, date, genre etc.
There is no way to see recently added scores. Probably because they are not accepting new scores yet.
Search works quick and easy but the search box should always be visible in the top right corner - to the right of the ghosts. No need to toggle it off.
The search result page lists all games regardless of port - which is good but not clear. They should be listed in alphabetical order and should have system icons that show you which platform the game is on. Example if you are searching for the the Virtual Console version of Donkey Kong. All you can search by is game name so you search for Donkey Kong. That gives you an unsorted list of about 35 games. If you were unaware that the Virtual Console version was called Donkey Kong: Original Edition then you would have to click on several of those and then hit the back button and start over several times before you found the VC port. Easier to just list a icon for each system on the first game search page.
After selecting the game, the platform page works great - except if there is just one platform available then it should skip this page and take you directly to the variation page.
Variation page should be alphabetized and if there is only one choice skip the page and automatically take you to the score board.
The final score board page should show the verification method (referee, recording, inp etc) and it should provide a link to screen shots and recordings if available. Nice to see they changed there mind about only listing the top score.
The gold and blue ribbons give it a nice 80s feel. Personally I think text on top of a graphic background is a mistake - the galaxy image makes it too busy.
Looks like they removed all MAME scores which is sad. Hopefully they come back.
Over all, nice job. A few small tweaks and it can be an excellent job.
I saw mame scores.... enter a game in the search like q*bert then select q*bert and you will see mame listed among the platforms...same for other games. it might be 100% of the database is not online(?)...not sure there.
suggestions mostly are being made at the CAGDC forums so if you already are a member there just suggest over there. Richie reads and participates in this forum regularly and already has replied to several suggestions made since site is up. some stuff they already are aware of but where it was not 100% working right in the beta so they deactivated that part until it's fixed to put back...like searching via player name.
date issues seem to be the other main issue...if a player set a score in 1984...but then beat it 2012...it lists the new score but the original date...the date doesn't seem to be properly linked with the score in the database. they are working on a fix for that.
i've already got a challenge for a score on there.
i was number 1 in 88 games 100 meters. 8 seconds odd. my score got beaten with another 8 second time.
i immediately beat it the same day with a 7.8 or thereabouts.
i got an email from russell archey telling me the score was achieved by possibly using the "run like hell "cheat. on WOLFMAME?
anyway, the top score now is 6 seconds, which was not there when the site went down. it has magically appeared today.
6 seconds is achievable but 7.9 is cheating?

I also agree Kong. It would be really nice to also search by the system of the game and see an alphabetical list of all the games for a desired system of interest.
And small system icons would help tremendously! Many games have so many different versions on various platforms that its hard to find the one you want like for example Donkey Kong.
Also did you get my PM Kong? I want to know what you think about adding An Super Mario World Central Production, a Super Mario World Hack to the list of games you host here for speed runs or game completion.
I have been wanting to see people play this game and attempt to beat it for a long time. I want to see the game play of people runs. I know that you have to be a donor to see the recordings. If you put this game on your list then I will only be forced to donate to your site an order to watch the recordings which means more money for your site and for you. Please add this game Kong!

I think this sounds likely. I've noticed a couple of scores that were DQ'd are listed as #1 or wherever they would have been.
At the very least you should have a unique and strong password for your email and your bank.
You should never ever use your email pass anywhere else. If your email pass matches say TG and someone steals your TG pass then they have your email pass then they can reset all your other passes and access everything you have. Your email pass is your most important pass, the gatekeeper pass.
